VotD: Roma Classic
By: alessio | October 30th, 2008After all….this was won in their Stadio Olimpico.
No Trez or Ibra, but Pavel Nedved sure as hell will be there.
Proper preview hopefully tomorrow.

I see Nedved in the same light as Totti. A very passionate player who sometimes let’s his temper go. But there’s no denying their love for their team.

Ale I couldn’t agree more.

Sorry ladies and gents, but I concur with alessio…. it’s one thing to say, love Roma and be a fan of Sassuolo or something like that, but to like Roma and Juve in the same breathe? Not possible for a serious, die-hard fan to accept.

And this is coming from a Roma tifoso, not a Juventino.

One must also consider the fact that, if you aren’t an italian or not raised in italia, you will not truly respect or appreciate this aspect. I see many younger people who are not english, spanish, italian, etc. whatever the domestic league is, saying they like Manchester and Chelsea, or Barcelona and Madrid.. These things are unthinkable.

Right on, UL.
Great words about Nedved from Ranieri- “Pavel is the captain of our Primavera side; he is just a kid and I am pulling the strings in order to get him to sign a two-year contract extension.”
“We play too many games nowadays…I don’t even know anymore if we are playing in Serie A, the Coppa Italia or the Champions League,” joked Pavel yesterday. “I am 36-years-old and, even though people keep saying I look like a 26-year-old, I am really worn out!”

It’s weird to me (as someone who is both old and old school) for people to decide what clubs they don’t like based on particular players.
Players are transitory (increasingly so these days). Clubs, and club allegiances, are eternal (or at least they should be).
There are actually very few current Juventus players that I really can’t stand (actually, Nedved is probably at the top of that list), but hating Juve is part of my Viola birthright.

I hate everyone… blah blah blah

Perhaps that explains your unfortunate choice of football club . . .

As the first Juventus-Roma of this season, I can’t help but remember Criscito’s performance last year. It’s not that it was that bad, but… It’s important for young players to get some flying hours, but gave the responsibility of marking Totti to Criscito, in his first season (not even season, less than 5 games) in Serie A, was kind off irresponsible.
At least Totti isn’t playing tomorrow’s game (and we have a way experienced defense now).

Haha, ursus. I agree on players, club allegiances are above all. If they move on, I’ll follow them, not the team. Ie- Palladino at Juventus Primavera #2.
One of the reasons I love Nedved so much is cause everyone else hates him, la furia ceca……..do Laziale still love him?

“Not sure how someone can love Roma and consider Juve of all teams to be their 2nd team….we’re diametrically opposite.”
agreed wholeheartedly! juve is more akin to inter, coexisting on the same side of the ladroni colour wheel.

Poor man’s Udinese vs poor man’s Genoa (well actually rich men but poor clubs) this saturday.

Lamagica, Roma of 2006-2008 is akin to Inter of 1988-2006. Bitching about the referees to cover up your team’s epic failures.

I guess we shouldn’t bitch and just pay them.

you mean like the juve of 07-08 with coboli writing an open letter to the league? ohhhh the irony of that one.

ale, I’ll associate with Juventini like you, but I draw a line at Laziali.
Not quite (for my sins, I have to work with a few), but I think that even they have turned on Nedved.
Do the Romanisti not know the story about Sensi Pere and Rolexes for the refs? Are they all that young?

i know the story. i also know that the issue was investigated and no punishment of any sort delivered. i believe it is common knowledge that the gifts were given with full transparancy. no wire taps required. further, i recall reading that juve were also bearing similar gifts a few years later.

Well, I thought that no one was punished because all the refs gave the watches back.

i’m not sure it works quite that way. if, hypothetically, there is an apparent violation of some law, say a thief steals merchandise from a store but the merchandise is then returned back to the shop owner, i believe the theif would still be charged for shoplifting.

Right. Well, I think it was decided that since everyone gave the gifts back that, although it looked fishy, the whole incident could just be swept under the rug and the less said the better.

ursus….don’t tell me there’s a team in the world you hate more than Juve?? I feel slighted.

…..or, less was said because it wasnt a violating any league policy and, as i previously mentioned, was done with full transparency. regardless, it’s rediculous to even put forward that situation as a counter example (implying it being akin to calciopoli) since it is a far, far cry from the calciopoli scandal which, let’s not forget, included other teams like milan, lazio and fiorentina….but of course let’s not be too hard on fiorentina since they only cheated ‘a little’…lol.
