Tuttosport’s Poll of the Year

By: agiamba | December 26th, 2009

Over on Tuttosport, they have three polls to close out 2009:

-Who is the best Juventino of 2009? (Buffon, Chiellini, Marchisio, Nedved, Sissoko)
-What young talent will explode in 2010? (De Ceglie, Immobile, Giovinco, Rossi, Marrone)
-Who is the flop of 2009? (Amauri, Diego, Felipe Melo, Poulsen, Tiago)

Personally, I voted Nedved the top Juventino, Giovinco to explode, and Amauri as the flop of 2009. The first, I think Chiellini definitely deserves it but he’s winning in a landslide anyway, so I voted for Pavel. The second, there’s no doubt Giovinco has the talent, he just needs continuity. And lastly, Amauri is hands down the flop of 2009 for me.

As of this post, Chiellini is winning the first vote, with Marchisio, Nedved, Buffon, and Sissoko following. I think that’s probably a fair result, though Nedved and Buffon have been above Marchisio, they also had a lot higher expectations going into the year. The last month has shown how fundamental Chiellini is to our side.

For the top youth, Giovinco is winning by a landslide for obvious reasons, though spare a thought for poor De Ceglie, who places last behind Immobile, Marrone, and Rossi. I like that Immobile is second, he’s shown a lot of confidence and ambition in the brief time he’s been on. Here’s to hoping he gets some minutes.

Despite Tuttosport being a trash bin of sports newspapers, the readers seem intelligent enough going by the votes. For the top flop, Tiago is given it, followed by Felipe Melo and Amauri. Diego, who has struggled in recent weeks is given less than 10% and the truly surprising (in a good way) is the fact that Poulsen comes in last at 4.8% of votes. I personally would swap Amauri and Tiago, though I think the last two are right on, Diego needs time and Poulsen has been quietly solid in the last few months.

How did you vote? Hope your holidays are going well!

9,6 percent for Diego as a flop? I guess some people want him to be a kind of Super-Platini-Zidane who wins every game for us even when all the others on the field are crap. That's just not how it works. During the last weeks he hasn't quite lived up to what his first few weeks promised, but still I'm sure his greatest matches for Juve are still to come.

Top flop: Amauri. But one shouldn't forget that he could only become that much of a flop because Ferrara let him play about 10 times too often.

Talent to explode: we're going to need more than one explosion next year.

It will be great to watch Juventus, i have bought tickets from
    http://ticketfront.com/event/J... looking forward to it.
  • TOP: Chiellini/Sissoko tie
    YOUNG: none
    FLOP: Felipe Melo

    Explanations:
    1) While Giorgio Chiellini has been an absolute rock in our defense the entire year, Sissoko's arrival at Juve last January (coupled with performances showing the same personality, character, determination, and tackling ability which made him great at Liverpool) instantly put him as my top favorite recruit of the past 3 years. For once, all hail Secco (and Benitez's stupidity) for a very *very* smart deal.

    2) Why none? Here's why:
De Ceglie: will not get enough playing time, has been a promise for too long.
Immobile: will get even less playing time.
Giovinco: same as De Ceglie, although Seba is probably destined to actually play a lot more. The only thing though, whenever he's on the field he never manages to blow me away like he did at Empoli. Truth is: I'm tired of waiting for the kid and a promise which still fails to materialize.
F.Rossi: Now this is a kid who truly impressed me in the precampionato last year. I was really hoping to see more of him but then again it would have pretty hard to outrank Nedved & Camoranesi. Shame.
    Marrone: Even less playing time.

Notice the question was not "who has the potential to explode in 2009" but rather who will explode in 2009". Quite frankly, I see none of these kids doing so.

    3) If suckiness could be measured in periods of time, Amauri would win. In the 12 months between January and now, I think we can all agree that quantitatively he's the one who disappointed us the most. He did actually manage to play 5-15 of those games right, which really cannot be said for Melo (who had 2-3 great games, then succumbed to a mysterious virus that turned him into Fabio Junior).

I voted for Chiellini, Giovinco and Amauri. Not sure if Giovinco is really going to 'explode' next year. Has Ferrara ever given a reason for not playing him?
  • Ferrara can't be too surprised about the board going around looking for potential candidates. In the end, it's there job. But if it's true that they offered Scolari a role in January then that would completely undermine Ciro and the promise of letting him ride this mess out. Plus, of all people Scolari? Fuck I'd rather keep Ciro... honestly.

Alessio I voted for Buffon simply because I think he took back the 'best goalkeeper in world' title in 2009 from Julio. Then for youth, I went for Giovinco as per your reasoning. And finally for the top flop I'm still gonna vote for Tiago who's still got less character than a giant piece of shit floating aimlessly in my toilet bowl, for two-three years now.
  • Pablo, it reminds me of a post I'm putting up right now, the flops of the decade. A solid chunk of them are Uruguayan. (Chilean, Brazilian too)

    top- buffon
    youth - rossi
flop - tiago (i think it has been pretty clear i never liked him)

j... It's only normal they're talking to sme people now... Just in case (you know)
  • Pablo
Is just a coincidence 4 of the 5 flops to chose speaks Portuguese? Maybe we have a translation problem and Ciro's words are being completely misunderstand... no, it's Ferrara's inexperience.
  • j
scolari claims to have snub juve, it is true, then that's a bit low fo the board. i thought they say ferrara has 2 more matches to prove his worth?

Special award for comeback of the year: Trezeguet.

I think its cause he's gonna get loaned out.
  • Robee
I got about the same opinion like the rest of you guys, but why is there no Ariaudo in the poll :O ?
  • j
    i voted:
    Top – Chiellini
    Talent – Giovinco
    Flop – Amauri

hands down, chellini, though nedved was my favouritre juventino, without chellini the team collasped more catastrophically than others.

giovinco, i actually didnt want to vote for him since ferrara seems reluctant to play him=no chance to explode, well on the field anyway, he's going to explode during one of the training sessions or match if the 22 yr old (if i'm right) dont start to play

amauri, i think melo, diego are all harshly judge, tiago is shit but he isnt that bad. poulsen is mediocre. amauri is the biggest merda, no goals in 2009, score a few then no goals again? useless sanba tricks? there is only one candidate, guys...but melo is winning, but the hell is wrong with these guys?

Top - Giorgio of the Jungle
    Talent - Super Seba
    Waste - Ah-Mah-Crappy

Sorry for the overuse of nicknames. I got on a role.

    Who is Immobile?
  • ooBia
i think most of us are being harsh on Melo. yes €25 mil is a lot of money. but his poor results are due to many factors: being played out of position. the supporters who can hit the confidence badly. and being a VERY bad passer (which is his own fault) to name a few. i think Amauri or Tiago are worse. constantly.

Amauri was good for 6 month, maybe less. Tiago was never good in my books!
  • colaking
why the hell is diego considered a flop,he's looked pretty ok in the last 2 games(bar, the missed pk against bari),anyway chielini for me has been our best player for 09,and hopefully giovinco will explode next year,he needs to play as 2nd striker behind iaquinta,he'll link up with diego well
  • Fjd
I cant believe they put diego as a flop after just 3 months...i mean its not like he was THAT bad, he was in many games our source of hope...i hope he gets back to form in 2009 and shuts those critics...
  • ED
Well I guess this is my two cents worth.

    Top - Chiellini
    Talent - Giovinco
    Flop - Amauri

I had to vote Amauri as the flop because he has wasted too many chances last year and even more so this year. He is just way too inconsistent to be starting at striker for a club with the aspirations that Juventus have!
  • agiamba
Melo is now winning Top Flop ahead of Tiago. What a fall from grace the last two months have been for him.
  • Jordi
    I voted
Top: Sissoko (same reason why Alessio voted for Pavel)
Talent: Giovinco, just give him the chance
    Flop: Melo, €25mln?
