Trofeo Berlusconi: Juventus v Milan
By: roberto | August 17th, 2008Two things can happen here tonight. We’ll either spank Milan by a handful of goals, or these two pinnacles of Italian football will once again scrap it out for 90 minutes. Either way, you’re in for a treat. Let’s just hope no one gets injured here, a sentiment I’m sure both fans can agree with. Well, I’m lying. I hope that Seedorf gets it good.
Damn Seedorf and his incredibly sculpted legs. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again, Clarence Seedorf is the black version of Pavel Nedved. The similarities are striking. On paper they should be retired, but on the pitch they’re running like chicken’s with their heads cut-off. They both have incredible shots (TIM Trophy ring a bell?), and their touch on the ball is orgasmic. Sadly, there can be only one favorite here. So Clarence until Nedved decides to cut his hair, fuck off.
As for our starting formation we could see a variety of things. In defense Ranieri has only left Zebina behind in Vinovo, so that leaves him with a ton of options. Grygera might or might not see any action tonight after his knock against Artmedia but he’ll be available if needed. Really, like Ranieri has always stressed, it comes down to fitness and who needs it more.
In mid, Salihams, Poulsen, Momo, Nedved, Ekdal, and Tiago are making the trip but again it’s unclear who’ll get the start. Nedved hasn’t enjoyed a lot of playing time recently so we very well might see him come on for a bit tonight. Poulsen and Momo did well against Artmedia in the middle together, so Ranieri might give them more time alongside each other to build some chemistry- or not. Salihams is working hard and looking great so he could definitely start. Tiago hasn’t impressed yet (what else is new?) and he hasn’t seen much playing time thus far so he might get some action, especially if we’re trying to off-load him.
The biggest absentees are Iaquinta, Camoranesi, and Trezeguet. All of them have minor injuries that they’ve picked up recently, however their absence in this one is hopefully only a precautionary measure. That means Amauri gets his start, and with Milan’s defensive and goalkeeping woah’s I bet he’s licking his chomps. ADP and ‘the Nappy One’ to start up front, and maybe some Primavera action later on.

Hahah good point sofia. Yea colin, I was thinking about Giovinco in the trequatrista role myself. The only issue I have with that 4-3-1-2 is that there isn’t any room for Camoranesi… You could have him on the right, but then you’re asking too much of him defensively. 4-4-2 is gonna be our formation again this year. No question in my mind.

Looks like Chiellini injured his knee, they are speculating that he might be out for about a month.

So that’s about 3 games he’ll miss… dammit

Some news on CHIELLINI:
Gazzetta is being awfully pessimistic, talking about Giorgio leaving the field in tears. That doesn’t bode well at all, because tears usually mean the injury is very painful and the player has to get major surgery. Then again, they’re a Milan/Inter newspaper, so…
KwSport specifically talks about “un stiramento al legamento collaterale del ginocchio sinistro”. Roughly that means “a pulled collateral ligament to the left knee”. Pulled is definitely better than ruptured, so hopefully we’ll see Giorgio back around September/October.
Finally, Juventus.com say Chiellini “suffered a twisted knee” which again, is not so bad as a ruptured ligament. They also say we’ll have to wait for Monday morning for further examination.

And on a totally unrelated note, here’s a great picture of Tiago and Flamini that totally does not reflect how this match played out (or Tiago’s performance, which once again was sh**).
We might want to keep it for later though, when Juve kick Milan’s ass in Serie A…

I knew someone would get hurt. No player wants to lose these friendlies against their rivals. What makes matters worse is that Chiellini’s “twisted knee” happened in a meaningless game.

Anyways, Milan scored some pretty nice goals in this one. Not much Buffon could have done if he were playing.

More news on Giorgio:
http://www.corrieredellosport.it/Notizie/Calcio/40238/Chiellini+infortunato%3A+legamenti+ko%3FStill too early to tell, but looks like he’s going to be out at least 6-8 weeks.

That picture does not look good at all. Before this friendly, most of the people on the forum I admin have been saying we’re playing too much shit and it’s fucking up our chances for the season. And goddamnit, they’re right. A rigorous preseason is one thing, but we’re playing too many top teams. Zanetti, Marchionni, now Chiellini…goddamn.
“Giorgio Chiellini, uscito al 36’ del primo tempo della sfida con il Milan, si è procurato una distorsione al ginocchio sinistro.”
Juventus.com is still calling it a sprained left knee. Let’s hope to god it is only that. I believe in Legro-Mellberg, but if one of them gets injured we’re in some serious defensive crisis. It’d be nice to bring in Ledesma for cheap, sell Tiago, and bring in one more defender.
Congrats to Milan on playing a great game. Marco, I know it’s preseason, but still believe in Molinaro? Legro was bad, but Molinaro…..uhy vey.

Fucking piece of shit Gattuso was supposedly claiming Chiellini took a dive…get off the Nazionale already.

I agree with you Alessio on what you said on the Milan page. That we should of never played this stupid game. And with Chiellini out for a LONG time lets just hope the managment realzies that we need a new CB (IVANOVIC/ZAPATA). Ivanovic more preferably because he can play both in the middle and on the side, just like Chiellini.
But knowing our management they’ll probably say Zebina and Grygera can fill in at CB. Not good at all.

Just the one on Facebook. It’s pretty great if you have an account, I wouldn’t make one just to join it though. There’s a video section, pictures, news, discussion boards, all pretty up-to-date stuff and of course the discussion on the main board.

A nice video of Marchisio and De Ceglie. De Ceglie will play a major role in our squad next season IMO.

We’ve talked a lot about De Ceglie and Giovinco, but I’m pumped for Marchisio. He’s an all-around CM, a great passer, takes long shots, basically the position we were looking Xabi to play.

Rumors out of Italy that Legro has been called up as Giorgio’s replacement. Bout time he starts getting respect nationally.

I think by the end of the season De Ceglie will overtake Molinaro’s starting spot. I’ve always liked Marchisio as well, great all around player.
If only Milan had the youth system Juventus has….
