This Stanks; Midfield Midmarket Musings
By: alessio | June 26th, 2008I know, I know, it’s horrible. But when you’ve got a name like Stankovic….it just lends itself to puns like that. I’d like to take credit for it, but it was the title of a blog posting after one of Dejan’s shitty games this season. Little did I know I’d be ripping him off 6 months later. On the subject, Chris and all JuveOffsides readers, take a bow. I googled “stankovic, shit” and the first result was from the Juventus offside. The first image? From one of Chris’s postings. We’ve put the Offside on the map as far as Stanky hating.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, Italy’s Euro2008 foray is over. While there will be debate for some time about why, the most important thing is that Donadoni was canned. As long as Mancini (another Inter Merda) doesn’t get the job, it’s hard to imagine us going downhill. With the end of Euro2008, the temporary harmony on the Offsides is now over. It’s time to start hating again. But this isn’t about hating, this is about Juve, and how our transfer season is going. Bottom line is Blanc wants the team assembled (buys and sells) by July 4th, which is when training camp starts. Raise your hands if you think we’ll be finished? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Thus far, despite the incompetence of our good friend Alessio Secco, I think we’re having a decent market. Everyone knows we traded Palermo Nocerino+15million euros for Amauri, and apparently not Lanzafame. We got Mellberg, a solid Swedish stopper on a free transfer. Giovinco, Marchisio, Lanzafame, and De Ceglie are all returning to Juventus, and key players like Nedved, Buffon, and Chiellini have re-signed with the club. You can find about the other Juve co-ownership situations here.
Blanc said we need a midfielder and a goalkeeper. I really hope by goalkeeper he means left-back. If we can get one CM and a LB, our mercato is done. And it’s not hard. I’d personally like Aquilani (not gonna happen) and Grosso, if not Aquilani, then Xabi Alonso. Let’s look at our rumored targets for midfield.
MIDFIELD:

Dejan Stankovic- Uhm, no thanks. With Mancini’s departure, fellow ex-Laziale Dejan Stankovic has also been moving towards the exit. Apparently it’s a combination of he’s pissed off Mancini got sacked, and Mourinho is not a fan. Both sound legit to me. He’s rumored to want the move and further rumors suggested personal terms had already been agreed on. Luckily, our fellow Juventini in Italia caused hell and it appears have derailed the switch. Good. We were bidding for him 4 years ago when he was leaving Lazio, but he picked the dark side. Plus, I’ve never liked the guy. Cristiano Zanetti was neutral to me, during him time at Inter, this guy is not very good and he’s a symbol of Inter. HELL no.
Alberto Aquilani- Inter’s offering a shitload of money, plus the kid is a Romanista. Not gonna happen.

Xabi Alonso- I think our best bet for CM. We already raided Liverpool for a midfielder once, but it seems they are ok with us doing it again. He’s expressed interest in joining Juve, he’s a world-class midfielder with loads of experience, and Liverpool wants to offload him to get Gareth Barry. For those who don’t know, Xabi Alonso is a center-mid who is a good ball distributor and has one hell of a long-range shot. He sometimes plays in a deep-lying playmaker, alla Pirlo, and he’s been big in Liverpool’s recent European success, which makes me wonder why they want Barry so much. He’s not in Spain’s XI for Euro2008, but captained the squad in their meaningless game against Greece, and he was superb. It’s suggested there’s only a few million pounds separating Juve+Liverpool, let’s hope we can get it done. Bonus: He gets to link up with his old Liverpool mate Momo Sissoko.
Other possibilities:
——>Sticking with Tiago, Zanetti, with Marchisio and Giovinco as backup- I’d rather not do this. Tiago has potential to become great, but we need a better option than him as starting CM. C. Zanetti has been great, but he can’t handle 2 games a week.
——> Marcos Senna. It was one of the strangest rants ever, if it did come from his mouth. He raged at Juventus for not buying him, and instead pursuing Xabi Alonso, mentioning the fact he was starting for Spain and XA wasn’t. Despite this, he’s too old, and XA will offer more to our midfield, we already have a world-class ball winner.
——>Miguel Veloso? I don’t see it happening. Something to fill Goal.com’s articles.
——>Podolski to Juve. It’s been rumored for weeks, I see him as a great replacement for the aging Pavel Nedved. He plays left-wing more than striker nowadays, he said he’s open to the move. But who would play CM with Sissoko? Nedved could, but it’s not his preferred position.
——>Quaresma to Juve? This is one of the funniest things I’ve read. Less chance of this than getting Aquilani. We don’t have the finances, he wouldn’t fit in, and a billion clubs are prepared to pay a lot more for him.
Nedved, Alonso, Sissoko, Camoranesi
Backups: Giovinco, Marchisio, De Ceglie, Salihamidzic, Marchionni (?), Zanetti
Opinions? Who do you think should be our midfield next year?

Yeah Musab, Adam’s right. Turkish players have generally flopped in Serie A (so have Spaniards, so it’s not in stone) and it’s one of those stories that is interesting, but probably not true.
Generally with transfer stories, 90% (as Lazio Coach Rossi said) are horseshit. Any one-off story, or randomly reported like this is probably not true. When the media has a flurry of stories about a transfer, it narrows to 60% bullshit.
Basically, if there’s no smoke, there’s no fire. Unless, of course, we’re signing a nobody. (ie- Edkal)

Alessio, you are right, but don’t try to come between us.
By the way, have you noticed ADP’s thinning hair? HAHAHA.

Ehem… “he’s a symbol of Inter” ?!? Well, I dont think Stankovic is a symbol of Inter. Materazzi, Zanetti, Cambiasso… even poor Adriano maybe, but Stankovic, nope. He was just Mancio hanger-on.
I, also, dont really understand what people see in him. I guess I am just not football-savvy enough to notice why, but the professionals really like him.
I agree, though, better for him to go to England that fall in with (shudder) Juventus.
Still, the fuss over him is fun to watch.

haha shows the difference in supporters between inter and juventus…like wen viera and ibra went 2 inter, they didnt care as long as they got players who culd win them sumthing. Hilarious. They have to be the lowest form of supporters, and now they try and dump their damaged goods on us hahaha nice try. It’s ok now that we’ve had our year of adjustment back in serie a and are back in the champions league, bigger player will want 2 come to juve…and my god the look on their faces wen we’re lifting the scudetto and possibly the champions league will be priceless

“Giorgio Chiellini – Juventus & Italy
Chiellini was told prior to the tournament that he could leave Juventus.
Indeed he was even offered to Palermo in an effort into tempting them into selling their star striker Amauri. Although, since Chiellini and Juventus have sat down for contract talks, Juventus may still be open to an offer for the defender and it would be no surprise to see him move on.”
Walter Townsend, Goal.com
Where the hell do these cunts get their information and ideas from? When was he offered to Palermo? And it would be a BIG surprise if he left.

Johonna, when I think of Inter, he’s one of three or four players I think of during the Mancini era. Maybe not anymore, but the fact Mourinho is threatening to make him train with the youth team is embarrassing. Cambiasso maybe after this year, but not really before. He had a choice in 2004 to go to Inter or Juve, he chose Inter. No thanks.

Why is inter signing or on the verge of signing everyone that we pursue lampard quaresma it seems to me the inter sporting directors are the laziest in the industry they ga after every one we look at pretty easy no? Inter sono merda merda. Moratti Piu merda di Inter il juve sempre.

More rumors:
Iaquinta’s agent was seen meeting with Marino of Napoli: If he wanted to be a big fish in a small pond, why not stay at Udinese?
IFIL, parent company of Juve and FIAT raised more money for Juve’s transfers, reportedly to get Aquilani. I still don’t see it happening. If we had Moggi, yes, Secco, hell no.
Monaco’s GK said he’d be happy to be Buffon’s understudy, despite leaving Serie A to find regular playing time. These players are making no sense.
Diego said he wouldn’t mind Juve or Inter. Bad approach and wouldn’t fit into our system.

it reminds me when juve signed nedved years ago.. he was a lazio fanatic, getting older with no club title.. but now he becomes an inspiring player in juve.. but still, i dont want stankovic to come.. XA is the best option after all.. do the right thing, secco!!

Usually the end of June is when the new kits come out.
Alessio, how much cash will Juve throw Napoli’s way if they send Iaquinta. I dont see that kid moving for less than 20m, he is a special player and coup for Juve if it happens.

Mid-late July traditionally, usually 1/2way between our summer friendlies.
The number being knocked around is 20mil euros+Iaquinta. Hamsik is special, but I’d value Iaquinta somewhere in the 10-15million range, and I don’t think parting with that much is worth it, especially if we don’t invest in a LB.
I hope to god Juve is moving silently on a LB, because Molinaro is just fucking inadequate. I counted three Zambrotta-style backheaders this season, only one resulted in a goal, not to mention shoddy defense all around. We can with the Scudetto, but the Champion’s League is just a pipe dream with him. Imagine him v. Crynaldo or Ribery? He’d get torn apart.

Hamsik is the next Nedved no? With the service that guy has given Juve, you dont think those numbers are about right? I cant tell you how much I envy the Juve transfer policies, and the way they do business. Isnt a silent move for a LB, bettern than Galliani linking you with every person in the sun, even if you dont have a chance in hell at getting them.

He may be the next Nedved, but god knows there’s been 50 of those. I think Hamsik is a good move, but he’s still relatively unproven on an elite level. Assuming 35mil euros is the total price, that’s 6 million euros less than Nedved’s cost, even if it was 7 years ago. That’s somewhat high.
Funny, because I envy Milan’s transfers thus far. Flamini, Zambrotta, Borriello? If you look back a few pages Flamini-Zambrotta were my two main acquisitions for Juve this year.
I agree it’s much better to move silently, our GM Blanc recently said “We don’t want to take the fans for a ride and will keep our feet on the ground.” The problem is they are not really doing that. Amauri was the most-drawn out transfer saga of the season. More importantly, a silent move for a LB is huge, but it does not appear that they are doing that.

That said, I think Hamsik is an enormous talent and we’d do great to buy him. I’m just not sure if 20mil Euros+Iaquinta is worth it. If we could secure the deal, I’d be for it. But with Secco was our DS, I kinda doubt it.
Posted from

The deal is Iaquinta+15mil for 50% of Hamsik. If thats the case than no.
Posted from

for 50% of hamsik, fuck no.
Posted from

I think that Hamsik is a good indicator of what Napoli think of themselves.
If Napoli were just trying to defray operating costs and have no confidence in their chances this year, then Iaquinta, 20 mil (or whatever the number is) for 50% of Hamsik would have been done… because 50% this year for Juve is 100% next year, we all know that.
But if Napoli keep Hamsik to use, then they are making a move for Champions League/Scudetto… but I don’t really believe the Scudetto part, really.

Dario Knezevic has officially signed on loan for a year from Livorno. Where’s Livorno-Marco when we need him?
