The New Stadium Plans Unveiled…

By: agiamba | November 20th, 2008

I would love for the new stadium to be named Stadio Degli Agnelli, but Juventus have already announced it will be named for a sponsor, for about 80million euros over 12 years. The closest seats are 24 feet from the pitch. 24 feet!! And the farthest seats are already closer to the pitch than the closest seats of the Delle Alpi, for comparison. A very intimate atmosphere.

According to Channel4, “behind the stands there will be eight restaurants, 24 bars, 459 Press seats and a ring of green space.” There are rumors they will be developing a hotel either onsite or nearby as well. NO running track, thank god, which supposedly the Italian councils demand in the new stadiums so they can be versatile. But instead of paying millions of euros per year to rent out the Olimpico, we will actually be in a stadium earning US money.

We are the only Serie A club in Italy to own our on stadium, and I’m thrilled to see the project come to fruition. The capacity will be about 42,000, obviously smaller than the Delle Alpi but as anti-Juventini love to point out, it was rarely full anyways (partially due to its awfulness, if you’ve ever been there particularly during the winter you’d know what I mean) and the new stadium’s seats will be much, much closer. Looks terrific. Pictures after the jump.

Edit: New photos added around 11/20 930pm EST.

I can't belive that mihgty Juve, Italy's greatest football club, a club with most fans in Italy does not need a stadium with with more capacity than 42.000?!?!
Can enyone imagine CL semi finals at the new stadium?
Shurley there will be a lot of ticket shortage. I think Juve deserves a larger stadium.
    FORZA JUVE!!!
  • I know but didn't tell anyone that I know. Remember that I was the first one to know. It was me that knew, me! me! Big Jock! Big Jock Knew

Alessandro, the 'big swede' is a Muslim, not a Jew.
  • A
Is this stadium to be on the site of the Delle Alpi? I thought one the draw backs of that stadium was it's out of the way location.

3 years till completion? is this a public works project?
  • MAD
Wow, and I get blamed for conspiracy theories... At least when I see a conspiracy it turns out to be real coughCalciopolicough.

And why give Juve a chance to hire a big shot lawyer and get off? For once the bad guy gets his. No problems here.

And let's face it, if Juve cares about things like National pride, they wouldn't have sullied Serie A and Itay's name. So don't give me any bullshit about the Azzurri.

The only disgraceful thing is Juve's actions.
  • agiamba
the only reason juve didnt take it to a REAL court is because they say that if juve did then italia would not be allowed at the world cup. that is fact

Also correct. Anti-Juventini love to talk about match-fixing when they don't realize Juventus was NEVER given a chance to adequately defend itself......when we thought about appealing civilly they threatened to blackmail the Azzurri. Disgraceful.
  • agiamba
Lol.......because Nedved's foul was a yellow at best? Clipping your ankle from behind is a yellow, believe ir or not.

Right on Alessandro.....conflicts of interest that people aren't interested in pursuing.
  • alessandro d'agostino
spiacente the head of security of telecom italia. my friend from modena studies law and say he has read the legal papers and it is a load of merda everyone knows it and the only reason juve didnt take it to a REAL court is because they say that if juve did then italia would not be allowed at the world cup. that is fact
  • alessandro d'agostino
guido rossi the head of FIGC gets to be director of telecom italia?! and is known as a die hard inter fan?
and lets no forget about the head of telecom italia who said that inter was involved as well and wondered why they hadnt been punished. moratti spied on vieri. everyone knows that inter are cheating like fuck to get that second star but you rely on a big swedish jew that looks like a vulture and i can no wait to see chiellini snap him in half tommorow

"how does that explain 1-1 and 2-1 last year? Find new excuses."

Perhaps you haven't been understanding what I am writing... it's MATCH FIXING. It always will be with Juventus.

How else does a guy, who was really way offsides, score a crucial goal in a game that had Scudetto implications?

How about Rivas NFL tackled by a Juventus defender on a corner and not get called?

And Nedved not get sent off for crippling a player from behind?

Sounds like special treatment to me. It wouldn't to you guys though. I understand that. If you cared you would be more upset about this stuff instead of proud of it.
  • Stefano
Alessio, the new stadium looks sick. Hopefully more Italians teams start building new stadiums, its long over due!

Blah blah match-fixing...how does that explain 1-1 and 2-1 last year? Find new excuses.
  • MAD
"the brimstone cloud and demonic symbols had to be taken off the project when we lost 250million euros from Calciopoli."

Why? Juventus "won" more than 10x that amount in revenue from all the MATCH FIXING over almost 20 years. Hell, a scudetto ought to auction for more than you paid for it on Ebay.

Besides, I thought that the brimstone came from Moggi's open wallet that is used to tempt the referees.

When one sees it outlined against the urban skyline, Serie A beware...

I think the current rumors are some betting website, not sure though.
  • Hmmm. Named for a sponsor.... New Holland Fiat Group Stadium?

I'm working on a preview post....depending on how busy this afternoon is at work I'll have it up in a few hours or later tonight if I actually have a lotta shit to do.
  • alessandro d'agostino
well there old club badge used to be a snake and that says everything about inter. no one in italia likes moratti apart from interista hes a worm of the highest order and if i saw him in the street i would spit on him
  • agiamba
John, the truth is somewhere in between. Moggi is no saint, but he's not guilty of everything they say he is. Moratti is a scumbag, and he's got some questionable connections to Calciopoli but I wouldn't say he should be going to prison. After all, no one with power/money in Italy goes to jail.

Is it fate or a coincidence that my 3 most despised players all are at Inter? Materazzi, Figo, and Ibra. When Figo signed with Inter (he's my least favorite player in the world) I wasn't terribly surprised, he fits in well there.
  • agiamba
MAD, the brimstone cloud and demonic symbols had to be taken off the project when we lost 250million euros from Calciopoli.
  • John
Also, everyone confident for tomorrow? I sure as fucking am! I think Jose will try to win this match with witty comments in the press, whereas Ranieri will win it on the pitch. 8 Inter fans, 800, 8000 or 80 000, it doesn't matter because at the end of the day the game is won on the pitch, and we are better than them in every position.

    Inter 0-2 Juventus

    Forza Juve :)
  • John
Great stadium. As a Newcastle season ticket holder who sits 10ft from the pitch, I can safely say the atmosphere at St James Park is brilliant due to the closeness of the players to the fans, so this is a step in the right direction for Juventus.

Also Alessio, or indeed anyone with an opinion, I was browsing thru Goal.com's Inter/Juve preview and stumbled across this

GOAL: Who is your all time number one hate figure, or object of amusement, from their lot?

Inter: That’s an easy one: their former “manager” (read: match fixer) Luciano Moggi. The guy was as corrupt and false as Silvio Berlusconi, and yet the majority of Juve fans still defend him. They don’t realise that it was his cheating and scamming that led to their relegation in 2006. If it weren’t for him, they would probably have a lot more credibility and two more Scudetti to their name. Because of his presence there between 1994 and 2006, all their victories during that period look suspect. And they can say they have 29 titles all they want, but they are not getting a third star if they win another Scudetto.

Juventus: It has to be Massimo Moratti. He is always pouring scorn on us and he is a hypocrite. Everyone apart from Inter fans know that he was responsible for setting up Calciopoli because he couldn’t bear to see Juve dominate any longer. He won’t be smiling this weekend though. He should be going to prison, not Luciano Moggi. One day the truth will come out.

Just focussing on that last line there ^^^^ What do you feel is the thruth?

Notwithstanding the fact that I am biologically incapable of wishing for anything positive to happen to Juventus (except when they play Real Madrid), it is very important for Italian football that this project proves to be a success.

The poor condition of the grounds and the clubs' lack of control over them is a key factor in a lot of Calcio's current ills (from declining attendances to violence and oppressive policing), and success in Torino will be make similar projects in Milan, Rome and elsewhere more likely to make it off of the drawing table (though the challenges are still very daunting, especially in the current economic climate).

And it will be even more fun for the Viola to spank the Bianconeri in the Agnelli than it has been at the Olimpico.
  • ebe
They should have gotten a team from Dubai to build it. It would have been ready by the return leg of this season!

    :D
  • MAD
Well, people wouldn't cheat if it weren't profitable.

    It looks nice and clean.

It's missing is the brimstone cloud, the "Abandon All Hope Ye That Enter" sign and all the other circles. I think that the eighth is where the team should play... you can call it Malebolge...
  • romabaha
Congrats, Juve fans! I really do envy you for the new stadium. I watched DP unveiling the plans.

It is a bright sport for Italian calcio in general, as it paves a way of building own stadiums like in England and hopefully following the EPL pattern of making tons of money and bringing the best players to Italy.

"Le caratteristiche tecniche del nuovo stadio della Juventus (che per adesso non ha ancora un nome) sono impressionanti. 40.200 posti a sedere con 4000 posti auto, 8 ristoranti e 24 bar. All'interno anche 3 spogliatoi, 34.000 metri quadrati di aree commerciali e 30.000 metri quadrati di aree verdi."

Translated: tech stats include 40,200 seats, 4000 parking places, 8 restaurants, and 24 bars. Inside, 3 changing rooms, 34,000 metres squared of commercial areas and 30,000 metres squared of green space.

July 2011, Nnahoj, just in time for the 2011-2012 season. It's a good timeline for being a large Italian construction job, let's see if they keep to it.
  • Nnahoj
Oh! Just realized that it was the Ataturk Olympic Stadium that was built recently and Gala had just played some Champions League games there. It wasn't actually their stadium. Forget I asked then.
  • Nnahoj
The stadium looks amazing. Once again, Juventus is embarking on another "first" in Italian football.

    Just a couple questions:
Alessio, when is the new stadium supposed to be started and completed?

Musab, are Galatasary doing another stadium already? Wasn't the Ali Sami Yen recently constructed?

P.S. The Delle Alpi was beautiful from an architectural point of view, but horrible from a footballing point of view.
  • agiamba
Take a look above, I added a few more pictures of the rendering.

Thanks to Marco for the heads-up, Tuttosport has more detailed plans on the site here: http://www.tuttosport.com/foto...

Alessandro, I have been to the San Paolo but never for a game, just toured it a bit when I was in Napoli. It was back when they were in Serie C though so I don't imagine it would have been an intimidating game anyways.
  • Mat
I've seen San Paolo in those Maradona videos.. pretty awesome..
as for the game on Sunday.. I'm just hoping Materazzi comes out in those pink shoes and del Pierro owns him, just like he's been doing in the past!
  • Pretty nice stadium, I think it's smart that their naming it after a corporate sponsor. In the modern day, everythings bout money.

Galatasaray are also building a new 52,000 capacity stadium to replace the old Ali Sami Yen. New name? Turk Telekom Arena.
  • asem
    stadium looks nice as hell
  • alessandro d'agostino
you ever been to the san paolo? that is the best stadio ive been to for atmosphere and noise napoletano are crazy about there team. what do you think the game will end up on saturday? chiellini going to make ibra his bitch? amauri to score a header? alex a free kick? you have to beat them milan are no good this season juve have to win it i cant take another inter scudetto they are merda
  • Mat
ya... fields like Anfield and Fratton park are much noiser than some of the biggies like Old Trafford and even Camp Nou.. acoustics matter a lot and so do the fans
  • agiamba
Yeah, Mat. 42,000 is about 25,000 less than the max capacity of the Delle Alpi. But the Delle Alpi was basically never full, with a few exceptions. The new stadium will be much closer to the pitch, much more intimate and I imagine much louder. Anfield is a much better venue than the Stadio Olimpico (of Rome), and it only has a capacity of about 42k as well.
  • alessandro d'agostino
they will pack out 42000 the delle alpi was very nice to look at and intimidating but the views and atmosphere was horrible. 42 is a good size for juve anfield is only 45000 but ive been a few games this season and its incredible. the barbera is my second home from serie b to the uefa cup ive never wanted us to move but unless they added more seats and renovated it we do need a better ground to compete with european clubs
  • Mat
isn't 42k a little less for a Juve ground? or are the numbers usually smaller for Serie A.....sorry I don't know
  • agiamba
I agree about the sponsors, but I think sadly it's the future. As long as the fans call it l'Avvocato or the Degli Agnelli like Ursus mentioned, I'd be happy.

The Barbera is in crappy shape but it's without a doubt one of the most beautiful stadiums I've been to.
  • alessandro d'agostino
looks good. maybe this will put everyone else into gear like lazio, fiorentina, roma and of course palermo but who knows with zampa. calcio needs this though because as much as i love the barbera our grounds are horrible. but i dont like the sponsors getting the names
