Siviglia v Juventus: Coppa di Pace
By: roberto | July 24th, 2009
Juventus take on Sevilla tonight in their opening match of the Peace Cup. What in Mother Teresa’s name is the Peace Cup you ask? Well, twelve teams are divided into four groups of three teams. Each team plays one match against each other in the group stage, the first place in each group will qualify to the semi-finals and the winners will advance to the finals. Did I mention the tournament champions receive 2,000,000 Euros? Maybe we can keep Poulsen after all.
Either way, the runners-up receive 1,000,000 Euros, while third and fourth place teams each bag half that. Financials aside, the 2009 Coppa di Pace will include the likes of:
Ecuador- LDU Quito
England- Aston Villa
France- Lyon
Italy- Juventus
Mexico- Atlante
Portugal- Porto
Saudi Arabia- Al-Ittihad
South Korea- Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma
Spain- Málaga, Sevilla, Real Madrid
Turkey- Beşiktaş
Joining Juventus and Sevilla in Group A is the South Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, who we’ll play in four days time. However before then, we find ourselves pitted against our toughest opponent yet this pre-season.
On our end, you could say we’re successfully maximizing our pre-season time to work out the kinks. As the lads are getting back into shape, they’re doing their best to adapt to a/many new formation(s) that will unavoidably take some time to learn. Coupled with the late international arrivals to Pinzolo, Juventus will try their best to win their group underneath the over-arching aim of match fitness preparation.
“It will be a useful test to evaluate the team’s conditions. The internationals joined a short while ago and yesterday three important players, Legrottaglie, Giovinco and Melo, joined the team. Melo must work to get back into shape, seeing that he finished with the Confederations Cup rather late. Expectations in his regard are very high just like the ones for Diego and Cannavaro but I expect more from all at Juventus”.
“The first year in black and white can be tough and therefore it is my intention not to put too much responsibility on the new signings. I am not referring to Cannavaro who know the environment well but definitely to Diego and Melo. Diego will today begin working with the ball. We do not ant to rush things and him playing will depend on how far we go in the tournament and therefore we hope to advance and be able to utilize him”. – Ciro Ferrara
So unfortunately no Diego or Melo yet. However it’s good to know our investments are being looked after appropriately. In other news, Poulsen now seems almost certain to leave this year after he was weirdly left behind in Turin for the Peace Cup. He’s obviously healthy, in fact one of our fittest according to reports from Pinzolo, so it seems Juventus want to keep him that way to lure or satisfy some potential suitors.
For more news about our Spanish opponents other than the absence of Luis Fabiano and Kanoute, Anthony over at the Sevilla Offside wrote something up about his side before this game. In which, I’m happy to say, he notes his side is playing a little “crippled” just like us these days. Well then may the least impaired side win!

Zebina more than makes up for his lack of defending with his offensive runs.
fuck Grygera.

I didn’t think we were very good to be frank, but it was a preseason game and we still have players to be fitted into the lineup. Hey, at least we didn’t LOSE like some other big Italian clubs playing high-profile preseason tournaments *cough* Inter *cough cough* Milan *cough cough cough*…whew, need some water, got a bit of a tickle in my throat

I’m predicting it right now.
The Final:
JUVENTUS, 4-3-1-2:
Buffon
Salihamidzic Cannavaro Chiellini De Ceglie
Marchisio Sissoko Melo
Diego
Del Piero AmauriVS
REAL MADRID, 4-1-3-2:
Casillas
Ramos Albiol Pepe Marcelo
Diarra
Robben Kaka Ronaldo
Benzema HiguianWhat a match this would be…
Anyways, nice win today. Only caught the first half, but other than being disappointed not seeing Melo or especially Diego in action, i was impressed, especially with Amauri. He’s showing that he’s back to his beastly pre-Xmas form from last season.

Armando I think Ferrara will prefer to have Zebina in Salihamidzic’s place. Marchisio was a work-horse out there today confirming he’s still in the running (pardon the pun) for a starting position, and Camoranesi was looking very threatening in his first thirty minutes before he left with an injury to his knee. Fuck, Mauro’s unlucky.

Yea, Camo is great, and am i the only one who thinks Goal.com’s player ratings are bullshit? I mean, they gave both Camo and Marchisio low ratings when they were both excellent. Marchisio had a few nice shots, and Camo had a GORGEOUS through-ball to Amauri that was incorrectly ruled offsides, among other things.
And it’s sad to hear that he prefers Zebina over Brazzo because i personally consider Brazzo much better. Also, Molinaro would also probably get the leftback spot too, even though i think it should go to De Ceglie, especially now in the Peace Cup, preseason, where De Ceglie can gain some more experience. Plus, with all due respect to Molinaro who is a total workhorse, i think De Ceglie might already be better than him, at the very least better at crossing and probably going forward. Defensively probably not though.

Everything about goal.com is BULLSHIT!
@Armando, Brazzo, really only is in the team becasue he is really versatile. But he dosent really offer much in an attacking sense or defensivly. he is very average at best in those two areas. Zebina in my opinion is our best RB, fuck grygera and the rest. Zebina atleast is decent in an attacking sense.
And I would be with you De Ceglie should start but he has to be nurtured into a LB, as it is not hes preferred possie. We really have to work hard on the guy to become a complete Left back as our new formations does not require wingers. And by the way De Ceglie isint in the squad due to the injury he got in the Euro U21 Champs. So he cant play at all in the peace cup.

Zebina is an absolute assclown with the worst hair I’ve ever seen but he does do some really good things going forward.

Ive heard that Andrade is trialing with Malaga, hopefully it works out for the unlucky guy, he was one of the best defenders in world football at one point, but for us wat awaste of 10 mill!

I am currently in Italy (Naples area), and everyone I am speaking to is picking Juve to win Serie A this year. They like all the transfer moves they made. They mention how “forte” Diego is, and, believe it or not, like the Melo move. Hopefully, they are right.

Am i the only one that thinks that we were at best average in this outing? Tiago was a disaster and no 3 man midfield can turn him from flop to champ. Grygera was equally awful at left back and so should be sold along with tiago and poulson. Our ball possession was non existant and i am begining to side with alessio on D’aggostino as i am begining to feel he is what we needed. Juventus should boss teams like sevillia around not hit them on the counter!

he did a great job in pre-season tours, but juve’s management gave lack of respect to him. i hop nice memories with juve will hold him from move and become the next inzaghi !!
however, if it’s meant to be happened, i would like to see new striker (young and talented) signed to juve, knowing that all of our main strikers are above 29 !!!

hey, does anyone thinking about new left back ???
i think zebina is ok in the right side (for now) and we need a good new left back !

Well, I don’t know if the 10 M we paid for Andrade were a total waste. His injury was the reason Chiellini got a starting spot as a central defender, right? So maybe if we had a healthy defender CHiellini wouldn’t have had that spot.
Regarding our possesion in the last game, it’s too early to judge. I think Melo will contribute with his part, and Diego will do a better job as a trequartista than ADP. Plus the team is still getting used to the new formation and still have heavy legs because of the training they have been going trough (much harder than the one we had with Ranieri, I’ve heard). I think possesion as pretty much everything will improve with time. Although it would have been nice to have a regista (which we don’t have: Marchisio and Melo are no registas). Maybe next year, there is still work to do on the team, but I think we have had a good transfer season so far.

@Mo…
Neo: the game is live on gol tv!! what a pleasant surprise!!
[Me]: wherever you watch it Neo, our lack of control and ball possession is very impressive.A little sarcastic yes, but damn the first half was painful to watch. I’m beginning to understand why Melo is going to be a good fit for Juventus after yesterday’s game. Like him, we are a team that’s rough around the edges. Brut force and determination coupled with moments of brilliance and finesse. I love that about us really.

If Madrid were to qualify from their group, we’ll meet them in the semis. So no Juve-RM final. That being said, I’m pretty sure RM will not qualify from their group.
