Serie A Offside Meet & Greet

By: alessio | August 24th, 2008

I remember Gianfranco doing a post a while back about how it’s funny that for all the argument and discussion on The Offside, we really don’t know who we’re talking to. I know some of you Juventini, but not as well as I’d like to. So in light of the upcoming season, let’s all learn a bit more about each other. Other members of the Serie A Offsides (KJ, MAD, Gianfranco, Daniele, CMP, Romanistas, Interistas, Milanistas, hell even our friends over at the Toro offside, etc.) are encouraged to respond, considering we interact on each others blogs we might as well know who we’re talking to!

#1- Where are you from? What nationality are you?
#2- Where are you living now?
#3- What do you do for a living?
#4- How old are you? (If you don’t want to answer specifically, a general age frame is fine)
#5- How did you become a fan of the team of your side? When did you start following them?
#6- Who are your 3 favorite players of all time?
#7- Who’s your favorite current Juventino? (Non-Juventini have to answer this too!)
#8- Who’s your favorite former Juventino?
#9- Favorite national team?
#10- Favorite player never to play for Juve?
#11- Your opinion on the best player of all time?
#12- Favorite Juve moment? Least favorite Juve moment?
#13- Least favorite Juventino of all time?
#14- Favorite kind of music? Any particular movies?
#15- Do you play footy yourself? If so, what position? What other sports do you like?

Add anything else about yourself you feel like….I’m interested to see the responses!

I am Interista so here we go….

#1- Born in Toronto and I am Italian. My parents were both born there.

    #2- Toronto

#3- I run a company that provides analysis/support to a LARGE corporate company. Telecommunications Field.

    #4- 27

#5- I was Born Interista. I have always loved them.

#6- I have more than 3: R. Baggio, Bergomi, Batistuta, Zoff, Bam Bam Zamorano, Maradona, Maldini, Baresi

#7- If you wear Neroazzurro I am a supporter of yours. But if I had to pick just, how can it not be IL CAPITANO!

    #8- Would Baggio Qualify?

    #9- Gli Azzurri

#10- Toss Up: Paolo Maldini & Baresi **Curses a bit for liking Milan Players**

#11- Diego Armando Maradona. I have met him, shook his hand watched him do tricks. Insane.

#12- My favourite Inter Moment is personal and will be something I will never forget. My dad put in the game at four years old but has taught it to me since I could practically walk. By the time I was 10 we were playing in Stadiums. One night, when I was 12, I had a game at Centennial Stadium which is just outside downtown Toronto. Inter were in town & it just so happened that right after my game, they were scheduled to play a mid summer friendly against a local pro club called Toronto Italia. I was well aware that they were going to be there. During our pre game warm up the Inter players came on the field and warmed up with us. They did some drills with us and later went to our parents to sign autographs. We had to focus on the game. They watched our game. At the time we didn’t know they were going to do this, but when our game was done they selected 5 MVP’s in total between the 2 teams. I, to my surprise was, selected. The reward?? At half time of the Inter match we were going to take a shot from the spot. The Person standing in the middle of the Goal? Walter Zenga. I missed. High and to the left. Tried to put everything I had into. I was embarrassed.

#13- I am going to say. The traitor. Ronaldo.

#14- I like a lot of music. depends on the mood. I like House Music and Rock (classic, hard, punk, alternative etc) the most though.

#15- Yes, as mentioned, I do play footy myself. I am a left back. Played Stopper as well.
Growing up in Canada (eh) I did what we all did in the winter and played hockey. I had to quit playing indoor soccer to accommodate hockey. I started at the very late of 10. Did alright at it, played Triple A. I also play golf, like fishing and I snowboard in the winter. I love F1 and Moto GP and the NFL.

As for anything else… Just like everyone else. Love to have fun. I HATE BOREDOM. Usually up for anything, love to party and drink my face off with my friends etc… I like travelling. Especially for sporting events. Leaving in less than month to tour Europe for a month! I have 100% intentions of going to the Derby on Sept 28th. Arrangements have been made and I will be in Milano that weekend! Hopefully I can get tickets with relative ease.

Yeah, that’s why I’m sticking with the Econ as my primary degree. I’m just doing history because I’m interested in it plus with AP credits, I have 2 courses left for a degree, might as well.

Sweet shades in that pic Adam. I love Goal.com’s comment on Tiago being left out of the Champion’s League team, our “iron fist.” We’re doing it for both of our benefits. It looks like for whatever reason Tiago intends to stay, but should he want to finally get out in January at least he won’t be cup-tied.

#1- Where are you from? What nationality are you? north of Toronto. Canadian, eh!

#2- Where are you living now? Calgary

#3- What do you do for a living? Geologist

#4- How old are you? Well, not only do I remember the 80’s, but also some of the 70’s as well. ;)

#5- How did you become a fan of the team of your side? When did you start following them? Not one of my parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles ever followed any sort of professional sports teams at all. They simply weren’t interested. With such limited exposure at home, my impressionable youth period was basically a write off as far as being “born” into any team, calcio or otherwise. It would be up to me to find the sports. Much later, my poor Toronto Maple Leafs had just gotten turfed out of the Stanley Cup playoffs (not a shocker, I know!) and my friends and I suddenly found ourselves in hockey withdrawal. World Cup 2002 happened to be starting at about the same time and the amusement factor of France getting stomped on by lowly Senegal was enough to draw us back for more and I quickly started cheering on gli azzurri for heritage reasons. By the time the crushing defeat to South Korea happened, I was hooked and looking around for a club side. I gravitated to Juve because I really liked ADP and Buffon.

#6- Who are your 3 favorite players of all time? ADP, Baggio, Maldini

#7- Who’s your favorite current Juventino? Tough one, but I’ve got to go with Ale. Honorable mention to Buffon and Neddy.

#8- Who’s your favorite former Juventino? Canna

#9- Favorite national team? Azzurri of course

#10- Favorite player never to play for Juve? Maldini

#11- Your opinion on the best player of all time? Pele

#12- Favorite Juve moment? Least favorite Juve moment? Scudetti 27-29. Chellini pwning Ibra last season was really sweet too. Least favorite would be getting demoted for no reason.

#13- Least favorite Juventino of all time? Ibra

#14- Favorite kind of music? Any particular movies? Anything that isn’t rap. I usually listen to some combination of rock, pop and dance. My movie preferences depend on my mood and run the gamut from giant explosions to cheesy comedies. Probably one of my top favorites is Monty Python: Holy Grail. It’s a classic!

#15- Do you play footy yourself? If so, what position? What other sports do you like? I kick the ball around some with friends, but nothing serious. I’m more into cycling, racquetball, hiking, snowshoeing and road hockey. I’m also prone to scrambling up the sides of mountains.

    Alessio,
As you get older, you tend to tone down your collecting hobbies unless you are to the point you are buying too many cars, but Ive gotten rid of most of the baseball cards and jerseya and now try to find NASL games on DVD. I have about 100 games on DVD from 1973-84 and I know a guy who used to be in NASL media and he has about 300 or so. Ill probably end up purcahsing copies of games I dont have from him. Its fun to watch those old games considering I grew up on them and was pissed when the league folded. I have one where a childhood friend was a ballboy tossing it back our boy Best for the Aztecs. If you know anyone who has a copy of the 1976 Soccer Bowl, let me know…lol.

Good topic by you to get people to post. Its amazing to see everyones background.

#2- Where are you living now?
    Melbourne, Australia (studying)

#3- What do you do for a living?
I’m a uni student. Bch of Engineering with political science as my elective

#4- How old are you? (If you don’t want to answer specifically, a general age frame is fine)
    19

#5- How did you become a fan of the team of your side? When did you start following them?
9 yrs old. Raised in a family of hardcore MU fans, naturally watched MU – juve semis, never turned my back since.

#6- Who are your 3 favorite players of all time?
oh thats tough. I think scirea is one of, if not the, greatest. for my time though I think Del Piero is well Del Piero and there are others but I like these two best.

#7- Who’s your favorite current Juventino? (Non-Juventini have to answer this too!)
    Obviously alex :)

#8- Who’s your favorite former Juventino?
I dont know, Alex is still playing :) Nah there are other players that I really like but I dont have a favourite

    #9- Favorite national team?
Malaysia, they play like shit but it’s my country. Since I love Juve and watch Serie A naturally I support the Azzurri.

#10- Favorite player never to play for Juve?
Non Juve players do not attract me. Just kidding. I like a lot of non Juve players but not a favourite.

#11- Your opinion on the best player of all time?
It’s hard to pinpoint one, but for Juve I’d choose Scirea

#12- Favorite Juve moment? Least favorite Juve moment?
Favourite would be Juve Madrid semis. Personally, it was when I watched my first Juve game live and that was the CL final vs Milan, and also when the youth team came to Malaysia last year and when Juve came to Melbourne this year – good memories. Worst memory.. I’ll go with Perugia – Juve title decider. I think I was.. 10 or 11, and my first shattering heartbreak.

    Baiocco, Paramatti, Blasi… HAHAHA.

    #1- I’m from Peru; dual Peruvian-Italian citizenship
#2- I live in Peru right now
    #3- I’m a Civil-Geotechnical Engineer
    #4- 28 years old
#5- I had a computer game back in 1992 (don’t remember the name but it was something like an archaic PC Football). I had to pick a team and Juventus was the lucky one (or was I?). So I tried to find out whatever I could about Juve (I must say, nothing like Roberto Baggio to catch up your eye). After that, and given the poor coverage about European football we had in my country during the nineties, I couldn’t really follow the team that much, so I must admit the magic faded eventually. But 2003 arrived (along with the champions league), and if there is a picture I will never forget it is Pavel Nedved’s stunned face after the yellow card he got in the second game against Madrid. As everybody here surely know, Juventus lost the final game against Milan in Old Trafford, but won an eternal fan (ok, I’m sure you all would have preferred the Champions League than my support, but that’s life). After that, I’ve tried to follow (not always successfully though) every single game the team played.
#6- Favorite players I’ve seen wearing Juve’s shirt: Roberto Baggio, Pavel Nedved and Alessandro Del Piero. Favorite players I haven’t seen but in some way I’ve learned about them: John Charles, Michele Platini and Gaetano Scirea.
    #7- Alessandro Del Piero.
    #8- Roberto Baggio
    #9- Italy
    #10- Paolo Maldini
#11- Best player of all time: Roberto Baggio
#12- Favorite Juve moment: Juve coming back from Serie B to Serie A. Least favorite Juve moment: Juve’s demotion to Serie B.
    #13- Ibrahimovic
#14- Music: Pretty much any kind of music / Movies: Pirates of the Caribbean (the 3 of the)
#15- I usually play as a defender. I also like playing tennis.
