SECCO SACKED!!

By: alessio | July 2nd, 2009

And now you’re the Director of Sport.

I apologize, that was an awfully cruel way to start the post and I imagine most of you were so giddy from the headline you had texted 14-15 people, including your grandmother and ex-girlfriend about the news. Someone suggested this question on another forum, and I liked the idea.

Having signed Cannavaro and Diego for a grand total of 24.5mil, Juventus is now looking for you to complete the mercato. You have 3 signings to make, and they can be loan, co-ownership, or full-out purchases. Your budget is 20mil left, we’ll assume we raise 10mil or so in sales. Who would be your 3 signings?

A few conditions-

  • Be realistic in prices, we can’t buy Xabi Alonso for anything less than 20mil.
  • Remember what competitors are offering, again with Xabi Alonso…..Real is interested. That pretty much prices us out.
  • We won’t play mindgames and figure out player’s preferences. Even if Onyewu probably wouldn’t want to move to Turin, it’s fair game. Even if a player is an Interista, fair game.
  • The formation will likely be a 4-3-1-2.

    Guys as much as I firmly believe that Secco is a retard, I HIGHLY doubt what the Udinese camp is saying is true that we only offered 8 million. As stupid and incapable as he is, I think he definitely knows how much Ferrara wants D’ago to be part of his midfield. Don’t worry about the whole Liverpool being interested bull, it’s probably Pozzo trying to keep the price high(18-20 mill).Liverpool together with Arse-anal are really after Gokhan Inler(whom I think will become a great midfielder in a few years).

    I don’t know whether to be happy that Melo is coming, or sad that D’Ago is not if this is true.

    i would be extrremely happy to see either of them come, D’Ago is more of a creative force, Melo is an absolutly complete midfielder, his defensive and attacking abilities are great and he can aso play as a box-box midfielder. I WOULD BE VERY SATISFIED WITH EITHER OF THEM!

    and by the looks of things your going to fork out the same amount of money for either of them. this is another example of how shit secco actually is. he signs diego when you have giovinco, cannavaro who isnt up to scratch, lets criscito go then wants to sign melo when you have marchisio

    Alex mate, Secco couldnt have done much with the Criscto deal, if Genoa wanted to take the option up, Secco couldnt have done much and Marchsio and Melo are totally different players. marchisio isint as much of an allrounder as Melo is, and at the moment Melo is a better player. And i wouldnt call Canavaro past it, he was past it in the la liga due to the fact La liga is twice as quick as Serie A is, and the slow tempo of italian football suits him. Cannavaro could be a success, and with his presence Ariaudo will gain a lot.

    “marchisio isint as much of an allrounder as Melo is”

    are you serious?

    regarding the criscito deal if juve wanted to keep criscito they would have. for starters they wouldnt of given genoa an option to sign him on co-ownership in the first place.

    so fiorentina have said the only team that is after melo is arsenal and they want eboue in return. if that deal goes through fiorentina will have one of the worst players in england in the form of eboue!

    yeah Alex im serious, marchisio at the moment isint as good as Melo in most assest of the game. Physically Melo is better, Defensivly probably the same, and in their Creativity Melo is much better, and Alex these days, 99% of Loan deals have an option buy outright, we are lucky that we only invloved a co-ownership option in that deal.

    sam marchisio is probably the most complete young midfielder there is. your right that melo is bigger but hes not a better player. marchisio doesnt have that physical presence but he still takes charge of the midfield.

    99% of all loan deals? dont quite think its that high but do you think a club of juves stature has to include options like that or is it because secco can be talked into it? the man has been shit since he was appointed he doesnt bring in the players that you need the most. diego is a prime example no doubt hes a quality player but what you really needed is a regista.

    I know in the future Marchisio will eb better than Melo, but currently Melo is without a doubt one of the best Midfielder going around.

    And Alex youre just baggin Secco for the sake of it! Secco is improving, we needed a creative force, an AMC and we got one, a damn good one, in Diego and im hundred percent sure we are gonna get a wingback if not 2.

    yes but you had giovinco already. the money for diego could of been spent on d’agostino and then the money your going to spend now could of been spent on a couple of full backs. i still dont know why the only team interested in de silvestri is genoa.

    Santacroce or Maggio, but if not them then I’d swallow the bullet and go for Maxwell. That’s maybe about less than half of our budget here so if we can’t get Poulsen or Tiago out of Turin (for a fee that doesn’t quite spit in our face), then we should think about saving the rest for an assault on Xabi next year forget Pozzo. Or maybe spend it on a parade thanking Werder Bremen for Diego.

    Deigo is going to be huge next year for us alex. Then once teams plan their strategies around him, in comes Giovinco & Co. blindsiding them from the left or right for example. The two can work marvellously together providing the creativity in our attack we so desperately need. A 4-3-1-2 system demands a sustained effort from us up-front. Without both of them, we won’t be able to last all year long in three competitions.

    after watching him for the under 21 side over the last year i just feel giovinco deserves to start. i still believe he can play next to a targetman in a 4-3-1-2 with diego being the one. giovinco always darts off to the left anway then cuts in, in a 4-3-1-2 he could draw defenders out and then either cut in, pass to diego or chip in a nice ball for the striker.

    ferrara has to get diego and seba playing together and then you will see champagne football

    There’s a good point about Ferrara. How much does he really know about the champagne end of things? No question he can get the business end of our defense up and running again, but I wonder what he can do for us upfront tactically? I’m gonna keep an eye on who he’s named for his technical staff.

    I think Giovinco is a great player however he is a little small and can get muscled off the ball easily by stronger opossition. If you see Leo Messi he is also very small (although I would say more solid than Gio) but he plays in a team that protects him when he is with the ball and opens up spaces for him to run. Gio needs to work on his strength before becoming a regular starter, if he does he can be our new superstar.

    I certainly would sell moore if possible…
    zebina , molinaro ,poulsen ,zanetti, marchionni, and trez.

    swap marchionni+cash for melo
    swap trez+ cash for huntelaar en diarra.
    criscito and santos for lb
    someone for rb.
    juve will winn everything next year!
    for controling , defensive, and central midfielders we have camoranesi , marchisio ,melo diarra and tiago(5 quality men for 3 positions)
    offensive midfield diego ,giovinco( camo if neccecary)
    strrikers :iaquinta amauri huntelaar)
    well be able to compete in every ingle leage for the medallion spots

    I’d sell marco, trez and zaneti(too injury prone) but keep tiago(he could be a useful player), I’d ask ferra to consider chielleni as a left back(i think it’s easier to a world class centre back than a world class left back)
    Signings:LEFT BACK – Grosso/Heinze/Balzzerati/Filipe(Depor)/Cissokho(steal him before milan does)

    CENTRAL DEFENDER – Fazio/Zapata/M. Richards(man city)/Onuoha(man city)

    How about forget about D’Agostino and a central midfielder altogether. I would personally love to have one of the germans i mentioned before or others as well, but it’s really not needed. We could already have a great, Barcelona-style midfield if we wanted to. Just use Marchisio as a regista, which he performed well as when needed to, such as at the end of the season, grabbing one of two assists as well as a goal in the last two games of the season. Sissoko’s then the ball-winner, and Camo is an extra, deeper attacking midfielder who can track back whenever needed. Think of it like this:

    A 4-3-1-2:

    —————Buffon
    Maggio–Cannavaro–Chiellini–Brazzo
    —Camoranesi–Sissoko–Marchisio
    —————Diego
    ———Del Piero–Amauri

    Buffon = Valdes
    Maggio = Alves
    Cannavaro = Puyol
    Chiellini = Pique
    Brazzo = Sylvinho
    Camoranesi = Iniesta
    Sissoko = Toure
    Marchisio = Xavi
    Diego = Henry
    Del Piero = Messi
    Amauri = Eto’o

    And just for fun:
    Manninger = Pinto
    Molinaro = Abidal
    Legrottaglie = Marquez
    Poulsen = Busquets
    Tiago = Gudjohnsen
    Zanetti = Keita
    Giovinco = Bojan

    I’d say it works.

    Also, we should concentrate on fullbacks, specifically Christian Maggio is the best choice by far in my opinion, Santacroce and Beck are good too though, but not quite as good. Santacroce can play in the center of defense too, but still needs to be disciplined a bit, and when he plays as fullback hes more reserved than Maggio, which is bad because we need very attacking fullbacks with the lack of wingers. And Maggio is flatout better then Beck.

    Buy Santacroce and use him as RB this year and replace Canna next year.

    Buy D’Agostino

    Buy Grosso (2-4m) and bring back Criscito next year

    Buy Huntelaar (15m?)if we let Treze (10m?)leave

    Sell Marchionni, Grygera, Almiron, Poulsen, Treze?
    and we are still within our budget
