PotD: Our Starting Lineup
By: alessio | March 23rd, 2009No, that doesn´t stand for Post of the Day. Roberto and I are too busy to write that much, occupying our time with booze, women, and the occasional game of calcio. (Although I hear Canada doesn´t thaw until mid-June, so I guess it´s just the first two for Roberto) But we´re making the Juve Offside a bit more interactive because hell, it´s more fun that way.

Below are two polls on who should finish the season as our starting forwards and our starting mids. If an answer isn´t in the poll, post it below in the comments section, because someone else is probably thinking it too. Or maybe not, and you´re just completely insane, which will at least give us a good laugh.

And as long as we’re talking injuries-
http://www.portugoal.net/index.php/more-juventus-news/880-jorge-andrade-looking-towards-comebackJorge Andrade says he hopes to return to playing football at the highest level, as he continues to work towards his comeback from an injury-ridden last couple of years.
The 30-year-old has not played for 18 months, since damaging his knee three games after signing for Italian giants Juventus. The Portuguese international had hoped to return to action at the start of this season, only to suffer a relapse last summer while preparing for the new campaign.
It was Andrade’s fourth serious injury in a little over two years, as blows to his left knee saw the former Porto man miss both the 2006 World Cup in Germany and last summer’s European Championships, leading to genuine fears over his future in top-level football.
“Psychologically and physically, I could not be better,” he said of his progress. “The stage of crutches and other complications has passed, I am working more and more on the training pitch, the outlook is good. I am very happy.
“This is part of the profession, I look at it as such. The injuries came at times I did not want – before a World Cup and a European Championships – but I am trying to get back to playing as soon as possible. I have a lot of willpower to do so.
“Can I return to the highest level? Yes, of course. I am working for that and the recuperation is working towards that, to again give the positive impression I had given up until now. I expect it to happen. I am over the problems and I am looking ahead.”
Still a Juve player
Andrade’s injury nightmare led to suggestions that Juventus were looking to terminate his contract, which runs until next summer, but the defender refutes those reports. “Juventus is my club. Every day I have done my physiotherapy, I have been thinking I am a Juventus player. This is my future. On the contrary to what was reported, I did not rescind my contract.“I can say here with complete calm that my contract with Juventus is in power, nobody can rescind unilaterally and I am going to be a Juventus player up to the last day of my contract. I am going to continue to fight every day to come back to the highest level.
As a player and man known for his humility, Andrade refuses to look for sympathy for his plight, and hopes to return to action as soon as possible, although no specific date has been scheduled for his comeback to the game.
“I do not have a set date. I know it will be soon, but I don’t want to rush myself. I am entirely dedicated. In football, we work in a group, but I have to be a little selfish and dedicate myself to me, taking myself away from everything and everybody and concentrating only on the recuperation: the physiotherapy, the gym work and the swimming pool.
“Do I feel like an unlucky player? Unlucky is a player who hits the post with the last penalty of a European competition and loses the trophy. An unlucky player could not have had the career I have, which was always progressing: Amadora, FC Porto, Deportivo La Coruna, Selecao, Juventus.”

I’ll take a knee-fucked Andrade over Knezevic any day. Hell, put him on the field with crutches he’ll still do better.

Hear freaking hear.

If we sign Ledley King, we’ll have the holy trinity of knee-crocked internationals.

f*ck that, i’m sick and tired of all the injuries we’ve had this season
we should dump andrade, he’s getting paid for nothing
and knezevic is on loan to us yes?Posted from

we also need a quality center back unless criscito is coming back, which is quite doubtful…

Sam, santacroce would be perfect. Could even become better than Chiellini one day.

Heh, I think that’s a bit of an overstatement. Santacroce has proved to be promising, but he hasn’t had any game like Chiellini has yet.
Sam Dj, yes, Knezevic is on loan so thankfully he just goes back to Livorno after this waste of a year.

Good news from the Azzurrini front: Lorenzo Ariaudo just scored in a U-21 friendly match vs. Austria and according to Gazzetta, played a leading role in stabilizing the defense after Italy went two goals down. The match ended 2-2 by the way (other goal by Paloschi).
In other words: bye bye Knezevic/Andrade, bring on the youngsters.

He’ll definitely get loaned out next season, don’t you think? I think we should keep him and play him Coppa and less-significant games, he’s got the talent. Certainly has played better than Knezevic.

Its true Santacroce hasen’t had any spectacular games yet but he’s just so talented and never have i seen someone own him. He’s definately gonna be one for the future.

santacroce is quality but chiellini is going to be the next legendary italian defender. it would be good to see the two play for juve but im hoping he wont leave napoli for a while. and only if you give us criscito. whats your thoughts on maybe buying hamsik as a replacement for pavel?

Hamsik would be a good buy but only if we don´t get ripped off and if we unload a center-mid or two. (Almiron first on the block)

that video is bad but i think the inter one of the last 3 seasons is worse. and milan have had some insane decisions go their way as well like that penalty outside the box. go watch some highlight reels of man utd, liverpool and chelsea from the last 5 years. or real madrid for the last 100 years then you will see some cheating.
and regards to almiron i would rather take hamsik round the back and shoot him than exchange him for that bald nugget. the only players i would like from juve are iaquinta (who will never move now), marchisio (will be at juve for his career) and criscito who would move as hes neapolitan.Posted from

and in those 2003-04 games juve didnt even win the scudetto so its just shit refereeing. how come milan wasnt stripped of its scudetto?

Someone in the Juventus facebook group did a bit of digging and found out Criscito is definitely on-loan at Genoa, not sold on co-ownership. There had been some mixups about it and a lot of websites were reporting both. He went on loan for 1million euros with Genoa given the right to purchase half of his registration for 5.5million euros. (Page 11)
Also interesting to note on there is that they state it is impossible for Andrade to recover to play professionally and last August they attempted to rescind his contract. Andrade begs to differ on both counts, it seems.

Nice findings, i hope Criscito is really coming back to play for us next season! speaking of which, grygera has not been very convincing this season, i think mellberg has been doing quite well playing in both positions, we should definitely consider getting a new wingback(s). Maggio anyone?

http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/blogs/si36.html
Right on about Vincenzo. He’s been amazingly patient when not playing at Juve.
Sam dj, my priorities for this summer wouldn’t be a fullback. Even if Grygera+Molinaro are average, they do their jobs in general. If we got a great winger and De ceglie/Camo/etc remain healthy, we won’t rely on much of them to provide crosses.
That said, I would not say no.
