New Shirts and Squad Numbers Released!

By: alessio | July 8th, 2009

I know the transfer market is not closed yet, but as of now, these are the numbers for the new seasons. Changes in bold, full list after the jump.

1 GK Gianluigi Buffon
3 DF Giorgio Chiellini
4 DF Cristian Molinaro
5 DF Fabio Cannavaro
6 MF Cristiano Zanetti
7 MF Hasan Salihamidžić
8 MF Claudio Marchisio
9 FW Vincenzo Iaquinta
10 FW Alessandro Del Piero
11 FW Amauri
12 GK Antonio Chimenti
13 GK Alex Manninger
15 DF Jonathan Zebina
16 MF Mauro Camoranesi
17 FW David Trézéguet
18 MF Christian Poulsen
20 FW Sebastian Giovinco
21 DF Zdeněk Grygera
22 MF Mohamed Sissoko
27 MF Albin Ekdal
28 MF Diego
29 DF Paolo De Ceglie
30 MF Tiago
33 DF Nicola Legrottaglie
41 DF Lorenzo Ariaudo

I was expecting #8 for Diego, maybe #21 but if Grygera stuck around, probably #8. I am pleased to see that the management chose to reward Molinaro and Marchisio’s role in the team by giving them “real” squad numbers. Diego chose 28, because 2+8=10, his preferred number and obviously there was no way the King was going to surrender it. Zebina rolled over for Cannavaro to take #5, as the whole “29″ deal was either bullshit to begin with, stupid, or De Ceglie’s favorite number. I’m rolling with the first two. If we sign a right-back, (and remain healthy) this team looks pretty damn good.

Onto the jerseys- Now I’ll say first, the only thing I think dumber than the mercato babble is rumors about the new jerseys. Of course I’ve seen some of the “leaked kits” over the last month or so, most of them wrong, but the ones from a week and a half ago were right on. Which first begs the question, how secret is Nike keeping the jerseys? Seems like every team’s jersey has gotten correctly leaked a few weeks early the last two years.

The home jersey I’m not too impressed with, the away kit I haven’t made my mind on. Nike never makes anything bad…but do they make anything really memorable either? I liked the gold kits from this season and the red-green one from 2005-2007, but they aren’t that stunning and no other jersey has been particularly memorable. Anyways, supposedly, this is the inspiration for the new kits-

Ciro Ferrara spoke of the jerseys themselves: «The first jersey, which brings the 1930s to mind, the one that contributed to Juventus being called “The Fiancee of Italy” (Fidanzata d’Italia), will accompany us towards new and prestigious objectives. The second is totally in line with the fighting and tenacious spirit of the club, the athletes and our supporters».

[The away kit is] built around the famous sentence pronounced by Giovanni Agnelli before the Champions League final against Ajax in 1996 («If they are a team of Flemish painters we will be tough Piemontese») these are the innovations: a jersey the colour of steel with a black and white line in front.

Finally, Andrea Rossi explained the choices made by Nike: «The first jersey reflects the Juventus tradition finding its inspiration in the Quinquennio, while in the second we were inspired by the character and pride which has always characterized the team in international football. This is from where the idea of steel colour and the diagonal black and white stripe was born. We hope that these new jerseys can give an important contribution in facing the new season».

I still long for the days of Kappa and Diadora.

Ferrara looking quite dapper in his pinstripe suit…

Blanc- How do I put this thing on…?

I like the new away kit, but with so many Brazilians on the team we’re looking more like Vasco Da Gama than Juve.

oh allesio I could hug you as was so eager to know what the numbers are for next season.
    3 nubers I abolutely don’t like are

    6:zanetti
    7: salihamidzic
both numbers should go to more ‘important’ players as both of them are reserve( especialy if also melo arrives) at best.
sissoko and camoranesi would be suited better with those numbers(or melo)
21…grygera never liked it about him, how dare he???
nr 21 in juve is not just a shirt so why is a semi flopped , B squad defender wearing it?
it would hav suited giovinco or diego waaaay better

about the jersies ,… i’m not complaining. the home kit is simple and humble which I like
the away kit is looking fine too, but I prefered a bright color to hav contrast, now we have 2 times dark/grey style
the goalies kit,… ah will their ever been a better one than buffons shining pink?:-)

I am glad that amauri has a real striker’s number, but more importantly marchisio is 8. I am looking forward to seeing him as rhevheary of our midfield for a long time. I’m also kind if surprised diego didn’t take 7, 28 is pretty random. I know it will be terribly sad to see del piero retire, but I cannot wait to see giovinco as 10 and king!

Ps. Are the gk kits green so Buffon can hide in the grass and pounce on unsuspecting opposition strikers?

anyone hear this on the Official website:

“Finally a remark about the transfer marker: «If we buy a player, he will be the last».”

This is what Jean Claude Blanc, and does this mean no wingback/s.?

By the way im lovin the away kits, pretty sexy.

I like the new away kits… but the color is pretty close to the home kit, so the boys are probably gonna need to wear the 3rd kit for away games

You guys think when Ale retires, they will also retire #10, like Milan with Baresi and Maldini? Ik it’s such an important number on any soccer team and it never got retired even after Platini left the game and I don’t know of any team having it retired; however ADP=Juve, as he has helped our Old Lady achieve a lot and he truly deserves such act of gratitude. I personally would like it retired in his honor lol. Any thoughts?

Alessio did you decide on who you will cover on your next Juve legends pieces?

There’s been a long discussion on the Facebook Juventus group I created. (largest on Facebook, join if you’re not in!) The general consensus, and I agree, is if it was any other number, yes, it should be retired. But the Juve #10 is greater than any other player. I wouldn’t mind seeing it taken out for a few years though.

Jorid, have not decided yet but I’ll hopefully get it out by Friday.

I wouldn’t think so jorid, the only thing better than having your number retired is giving it to an heir. I can’t wait to see giovinco wearing the holy #10. Retired numbers are usually only given to the sons of those players, but giovinco is future captain, a product of our youth system, and is short enough to be passed up as his son so I think he deserves it.

That away kit absolutely rocks. Wow. I loved the gold and in general I I have always found Juve designs to be fresh, but that steel with a sash is maybe my all time favorite.

It’s hard to imagine such numbers as 7 and 10 to retire, isnt it.
