Juventus v. Siena: No not Miller

By: roberto | March 13th, 2010

Just a quick preview ahead of Siena. The line-up this weekend is a little harder to predict than others as Zaccheroni will try his hand at some squad rotation. Although, it’s more like a forced hand really. Giovinco and Caceres will not be featured again as they’ve been absent in training all week. Diego should be on the bench from the start of this one for a much needed break, and in case his services aren’t needed thereafter, that’s where he’ll remain.

Del Piero, who has been absent in the last two games, should be fully charged and ready to go alongside the in-form David Trezeguet. Hopefully Alex can provide some of that spark we’ll definitely need in Diego’s absence. If he can’t perhaps Mauro will move to a more inside role, a la trequartista, behind the two strikers to provide a better link between our midfield and attack. I expect the pony tailed one to start from the get go. Of course Iaquinta will be given some a little more time than usual out there, however I still expect him to come off the bench for either ADP or T-Rez eventually.

De Ceglie will most likely start on the left wing, as he wasn’t featured in the game against Fulham and should be fully rested. Grosso should be riding the pine in favour of the more defensively inclined Salihams at the left back position, especially considering Fabio played the full 90 mins on Thursday. Poulsen will probably be starting ahead of Sissoko in the central midfield role alongside the newly activated Felipe Melo. Candreva could be used as a sub option for Zaccheroni later in the game.

In Defense, Legro and Cannavaro will be playing in the middle with Grygera on the right considering Zebina is suspended, but the Frenchman was probably going to be rested in favour of the Czech defender anyways. Finally once again, Alex Manninger will be the man between the sticks. Final score: 3-0

Keep an eye on: Maccarone Albin Ekdal. The Juventus owned midfielder is enjoying regular time as a starter in most cases with Siena, and has been looking better because of it. If your not familiar with his game, he’s everything Tiago wanted to be and more. He’s almost like a calmer version of a Marchisio. A more playmaking version of Poulsen if you will. I bet the injured Paolucci wishes he was still at Siena right now with Iaquinta getting healthy these days.

4 Felipe Melo
5 Cannavaro
6 Grosso
7 Salihamidzic
8 Marchisio
9 Iaquinta
10 Del Piero
12 Chimenti
13 Manninger
16 Camoranesi
17 Trezeguet
18 Poulsen
21 Grygera
22 Sissoko
26 Candreva
28 Diego
29 De Ceglie
33 Legrottaglie
39 Marrone
41 Pinsoglio

IERI… OGGI… DOMANI… SEMPRE JUVE!!!

@Sofia: I can't agree more! Man, I wish we could have a couple more Buffons, Chiellinis, Marchisios and Del Pieros!
  • Stefano
@juve1: You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Yes Grygera is shit but our young talent is vastly overrated?! You obviously don't watch games or read the news. Go on youtube and watch vids of Giovinco. As for Marchisio, he was sick and willingly played 90 against Fulham + 45min against Siena and he saved our ass with his goals last season.

@Alessio: Poulsen at CB? That's a new one on me. Maybe we should bring Ariaudo back too.
  • Sofia
Ok really, you know shits bad when we are trying to decide which midfielder to play in defence. Have we actually hit rock bottom??
  • Gaetano
    damn. thats right.
  • agiamba
I'd rather Poulsen at CB over Sissoko. He's less prone to flashy (read: penalty-causing) tackles.
  • I'm thinking a 4-5-1... Maybe ask Sissoko to play CB with Canna.
  • Blanda_Amania
Fulham at home with have more confidence that the Fulham we saw. I feel strongly that we will have a very defensive game. I'm thinking draw 1-1, or even 1-0 in their favor if we get too frisky defensively. Canna, or Cacca as Jorid calls him, will need to stay very close to home and just concentrate on not letting Chimenti get into and 1v1's. Melo, Sissoko, and Poulsen in the middle will be strong defensively, but Pouslen's probably the only one who might be able to help penetrate their defense. We just need to play strong defensively and explode on the counter attacks.
  • agiamba
Legro is suspended for the match, so his recovery is a moot point. Chiellini is probably still a good week out from training, btw him and Gigi were both at the game. Gigi was in a nice box with his wife and two kids, whereas Giorgio was down with the tifosi.
  • Gaetano
I agree with you jorid but one of those two (melo/sissoko) will get a red. Imo Marchisio, if fit will be a better link to the attack.

    …also Legro may be back.

When is giorgio back????WE need him like we have never before!
  • Jorid
Also, I thought the same back then, and I think the same way now about it: loaning out Ariaudo was retarded. Our season has already gone to shit(compared to our initial objectives), and I would have loved to keep the guy and get him like 4-5 starts next to Keyser Giorgio. Instead, he's at Cagliari, chilling on the bench. Fuck you Secco for the 8409384097402804825802740284305209834 time.
  • Jorid
This is fucked up. How about we try Poulsen as a CB? Not his position, but I'd rather have him at CB, and Zebina at RB and leave Grygera the Idiot on the bench. Or if Zac decides to play the way that football Italia article says, then I'd go like this:
    Chimenti/Pinsogio

    Grygera-Zebina-Cacca-PDC

    Poulsen-Melo-Sissoko All 3 used as DM's.

    Diego-Candreva

    Iaquinta/Trez

I'd field a very defensive-minded squad, use counter attacks and hope for a draw. If we score a goal, it would be great, but a 0-0 draw and a clean sheet would be fantastic also.
  • Sofia
Why do we have no other back ups in defence?! Was Ariaudo really the only one we have?? What about kids for the Primavera squad? I think I would trust them more than I trust Grygera!
  • Blanda_Amania
Caceres had stomach issues all this time? What in the world is that? I hope they can fix him up real quick, but it sounds like he's out at least another week with that business. Oi, something is amiss at medical! It's a packed house over there.

Zebina in the middle with Canna? Grygera and Chimenti? Ai, Jesus! I will light two candles for the Fulham match. To be fair, Zebina and Canna's last two matches have had more positives than negatives, but Zebina won't be able to contribute as much from center.
  • Alastair
juve1, your obviously not a juventus fan saying “our young talent is vastly overrated.” And Marchisio has one bad game and he “stinks”. Wow you really don’t know anything, get your facts right before you talk.

And Marchisio didn't even have a bad game, unless getting injured and having to come off counts as "bad".

Caceres suffers from abdominal inflammation!? I didn't know that.
  • ishaq96
we desperately need new full backs and central defenders. our board seem so reluctant to strengthen our weakest area. letting arioudo go was a really daft decision. we need a good, defensively secure right back, a good left back, and 2 rock solid central defenders. championship winning teams are always built with a strong foundation ie defence, so unless we solve this proness to concede goals, i cannot see us winning or going far in any tournament next year.
  • Sofia
j- sadly, I have a feeling that is all talk. What are the chances of us having a summer clearout? Slim to none I'm sure. If the management do pull through on that I will be VERY shocked and very impressed. But look what they've done for us this far...nothing. They have made maybe 3 good signings and the rest were bullshit. They have run Juve into the ground because they simply don't care. They are not Juventini and all they see are $$$$$.
Interesting how EVERYONE can see how stupid they are except the people who have the power to get rid of them...
    http://www.football-italia.net... - Moggi, I actually miss you.
  • j
ariaudo barely gets any playing time, so i think whoever he is should be spared

we can forget about this season, just looking forward to the clearing of the squad in the summer, not sure whether our management has the balls to do that, oh and something has to be done to vinovo too, don't seem much, but for our current management, it seems to be uphill tasks, talk about incompetent
  • ooBia
We should start Pinsoglio for the Fulham game if neither Buffon nor Manninger are fit. As for the solution for our CB situation all I'm going to say is this whoever agreed on loaning out Ariaudo is a complete douchbag.

2nd rate, 2nd tier team... Grygera? Zebina? Please.. Give me a break. This team was better when it came back from Serie B.. What a joke. 3-0 up and they tie? I really think they dont care and I really think guy like Melo are cancers in the locker room.. this guy sucks, I mean, come one.. they all suck except for ADP. Marhisio stinks too, our young talent is vastly overrated,

    Bad news for fulham game.

Buffon, Manny, Leggro, Chiellini are out. Zebina may partner Canna at the centre while Grygera is the RB

FUCK GRYGERA! 3 MISTAKES IN 2 GAMES. THE FUCKER OFFER NOTHING GOING FORWARD AND DEFENSIVELY HIS COMPOSURE IS TERRIBLE, FUCK HIM! NEVER LIKED HIM NEVER WILL! FUCK GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE 4TH SPOT.

@Comrade: espn360 shows Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga but i was pissed that they didn't show EPL. they only show those of the big clubs like Juve, Inter, Bayern, Barca etc which is nice for us Juve fans

@Blanda: I'm sure he was mentally kicking every ball and shaking his head everytime Grygera slips up. He show write a how-to-do manual for Grygera to follow
  • Comrade
Nice find, Jorid. Will be useful in non-footballing situations as well.
  • Comrade
ESPN360 kicks ass. Too bad TWC does not support it. I am going to go to my office every time there is they are showing Juve matches.
  • Blanda_Amania
Jorid, I could not stop watching that, or even blink. It was mesmerizing, lol!

Stefano, I bet Caceres wants desperately to pull on his thigh highs and boots, and show him how it's done. He's been gone so long I wonder if he can jump right in again without missing a beat. Or at least not too many beats.

Man, I should be working. These guys just don't understand the horror of my morning.
  • Jorid

What I was saying to Grygera as I was watching the match. Hopefully the sound works and you can hear it lol.
  • Stefano
LOL! Caceres must've been sitting in front of the TV or somewhere in the Olimpico cursing Grygera under his breath "Screw that Zdenek. DAMN, I wish I were there!"
  • Sofia
Hahahah! Sharing shampoo! Oh dear, that's probably the LEAST of his worries right now! I'm pretty sure all Juventini want his head right now and seeing as Juve is the most supported team in Italy he is pretty screwed! But for real, he deserves it. I really don't know what the hell was going through his mind! Our boys should've just stopped passing to him lol
  • Blanda_Amania
Exactly, Stefano. I can see them keeping it together till they shut the door, and then the guilt tripping starts. He's probably feeling like poo right now, but did he not get the memo that we're improving and moving forward?! Aiyaiyai...
  • Stefano
@Blanda: Haha, I can imagine Chimenti yelling at him "What the hell were ya doin man?!"
  • Blanda_Amania
Legro is making like he's not blaming Grygera in his interview, but I wonder how many were giving him the stinkeye in the locker room after the game and not sharing their shampoo with him.
  • Sofia
We should be good as long as Grygera doesn't play :P
  • Blanda_Amania
Alastair, I agree. Early leads can make you complacent, and once you lose momentum, it's so hard to find pace again. When they tried, the harder they pushed, the more mistakes they made, and the more frustrated they got, which lead to more bad choices. They needed to play like they were down from the first goal on even if to just psyche themselves out into keeping up the pressure they had in the first 10 minutes. They settled, Siena saw it, and took they full advantage.
  • Alastair
I feel pessimistic ahead of our trip to Craven Cottage. If we can blow a 3-0 lead to Siena, surely a 3-1 lead over Fulham isn’t much.

A large part of the defeat to Siena was psychological, I think. As Alessio said, we just switched off after ten minutes because we thought we could coast with a 3-0 lead against bottom of the table Siena. Turns out we couldn't, and that will hopefully be a wake-up call ahead of Thursday. And if it wasn't, I am confident Zac will shout the ear off the squad. I'd be very surprised if they don't go into that second leg with a corrected attitude... at least for that match.
  • Alastair
I really don't understand the Diego hate. He is one of the world's most naturally talented footballers. He's in the top twenty, at least, and possibly in the top ten, though he's rarely shown that for Juventus yet. As it stands, he is the most naturally talented player in our squad who isn't ADP (and crucially he's nearly a decade younger). While I like Candreva, and increasingly think he could work for us as a squad player (ideally he wouldn't be a starter), he doesn't compare to Diego at his best. Admittedly we've only seen that best in flashes this year, but I don't think that's Diego's fault for the most part.
  • Sofia
jiji_pl - I have to disagree with what you said about not blaming the coaches, management, etc. If we are to blame the players, where do you think they came from? Appeared in thin air? No. Someone had to BUY them. And that someone is Alessio Secco, etc. What are you going to do? Blame Grygera for playing at Juve?? Him playing at Juve is the management's fault. What do you think Grygera is going to do? Turn around say he is shit and resign?! He has a family to feed too. Next, of course not all the blame can be put on Zac, but he trains the team. He guides them and directs them. If he is guiding them in the wrong direction, where are the supposed to go? He makes the decision of who to play and who to bench, so in that regard he is to blame. The players, of course, have to shoulder SOME blame as they have not helped the situation by playing like they couldn't care less about the result. There were very few shining stars today (after the first 10 minutes) and that is not something you want to say about your team.
