Juventus v Chievo: ‘First of 38 Finals’

By: roberto | August 22nd, 2009

“We must enter the field every time with the determination not leave any points to anyone because every point may weigh on the final table. We are about to play 38 finals and the match against Chievo is the first one. We are immediately faced by a delicate and tricky match against the Veronesi who will come to Turin full of enthusiasm after having avoided relegation last year when they amazed all those who were already sure of their demotion to the Serie B in the middle of the championship. We must be careful with regards to the organization of their game, to their rhythm and pay attention to Pellissier.”   -Gigi

When it comes to Juventus, performing at our best against the league’s top competitors has never been an issue. Conversely however, over the last two years, playing at a higher level than our opponents from smaller provincial clubs has been a challenge at best. This season we must put an end to that stigma once and for all. Last year Pellissier gave us the business, and in a small way maybe we should thank him for playing his part in bringing Ciro to the helm.

Juventus 2.0

“To be a great team you must not only beat the big teams but most of the time you win a championship by beating those teams which on paper are weaker. Tomorrow’s match will see us play against a team which does not leave me tranquil. Last year Chievo Verona gave us a hard time. We must be careful of some excellent players they have especially a certain clever striker (Pellissier) who last year made it really hard for us. We approach the match at a great time and in good condition but we must be careful and concentrated. We cannot afford to lose points on the first match day and what more at home. They are very good at reacting and have very good players.” -Ciro

So this time we’ll be bringing the goods I imagine. Ferrara has a relatively healthy roster to choose from ahead of this one. Aside from Zebina and Giovinco who are still unavailable, Ciro has called up twenty players including the likes of Camoranesi, Chiellini, Del Piero, De Ceglie, and Tiago. Melo is disqualified, however the other two Brazilians in Diego and Amauri are ready to go.

1 Buffon 3 Chiellini 5 Cannavaro 7 Salihamidzic 8 Marchisio 9 Iaquinta 10 Del Piero 11 Amauri 13 Manninger 16 Camoranesi 17 Trezeguet 18 Poulsen  19 Molinaro 21 Grygera 23 Ariaudo 28 Diego 29 De Ceglie 30 Tiago 33 Legrottaglie 39 Marrone

IERI… OGGI… DOMANI… SEMPRE JUVE!!!

totally agree with you Fjd on the first part.. not sure about 'cannabella' though :p. diego was amazing but our forwards lacked something.

anyways, as everyone is saying, we started the season with a win..
  • Fjd
Not a bad match...we showed we can attack and we can defend in the 2 halves :)...chievo caused us more trouble than they should have...

ps: if Cannavaro manages to perform like that week in and week out he might be forgiven at the end of the season, and maybe fans would replace cannamerda with cannabella (?) :P

strong first half, SHIT second half
  • agiamba
The first half looked great, 2nd half as Ciro put it aptly, we suffered. Nevertheless, it's 3 points against a plucky opponent and now we can start preparing for Roma.

Inter got a BS penalty call. I'm not suggesting it's anything other than poor refereeing, but watch when Juve gets a crap call, the Interistas will pop out of the internet screaming bloody murder.

I will live with a 1-0 game. I am not content with it but granted it is the first game, new formation, new sort of swagger,i will live with a narrow victory. I question some of the substiutions, Marrone over Camo? with 15 good mins in a 1-0 game. I understand it is important to regelate the youngsters but this game was far from over. Trez should have also been shown some playing time. Overall not a bad. The middle with Diego will become explosive when the chemistry is there. At times the attack looked out of sync but as aformentioned that is due to the lack of chemistry. Tiago sparyed the ball around nicely - and specifically to the wings, Poulson started well... and became more clumsy towards the latter, but looked sharp. I hope we will be healthy for Roma, they looked crisp on attach and vunerable in the last fifth of the field. I hope we can exploit them down the middle. Forza Juve. Bravo!!!

Frankly I don't think Brazzo was that good at left back. His crosses left a lot to be desired. I still prefer De Ceglie in that position.
  • zaki
guys, we win !!!! 1-0 thanks to Iaquinta. what a good prediction, roberto (the photos, lol !!). with 5 injuries (zebina, sissoko, camoranesi, giovinco, del piero) plus melo suspended, it was a really reasonable score !! we can do even better next week against roma !!
  • hant00
a pack of wounded wolves, shall be a dangerous encounter!
  • al
    next week: Roma.
  • HolyMann
we seriously need to do something about those full backs, when Salihamidic was on, we were looking quite nice from his side, Grygera is Grygera, but what the hell happened to De Ceglie??
and Diego is amazing, but needs to improve, he's hogging the ball quite alot which costs us to lose possession
and yeah, sucks to say it, but the two who shall not be named had a sound game with some good moments
  • ned lowe
a work in progress...not grammy winning stuff, but it'll do 2 be going home with at this stage...good showing from the midfield trio...i wonder who'll be benched when camo, sissoko n melo r fully fit tho?
  • Calisi
    Grygera can't cross either
  • Nnahoj
We had to work a little too hard for that win, but at least we got the season off on a good foot.
  • Michelangelo
were losin the ball WAYYY to easily, its bad:(
  • Sam Dj
    diego is class
  • Pablo
De Ceglie suddenly forgot how to cross... maybe its Molinaro in disguise.
  • Cannavaro
Nice tackle there. He's having a stellar match thus far.
  • Pablo
I do not agree with the "boring, long ball" comment. We had a few moments like that, but we did some nice plays too and the first half was pretty entertaining, for me at least.
  • Jorid
Hahaha, no hard feelings at all man. You should have seen my look when I read the first sentence, I was like: "Uhmmm... uhhh well". I just think he did do a few decent things so far. You can definitely tell he's still not playing at his fullest ability tho, he looks VERY nervous at times.
  • Nnahoj
    You're an idiot, Jorid.

I agree with you about Poulsen, it's just you put it out there and I could never pass up an opportunity to call someone an idiot. No hard feelings.
  • al
but i dont think we make improvement in the we play. boring, long ball. not surprised why the goal came from set pieces.
  • Jorid
call me an idiot but Poulsen is playing with some heart out there. Nothing great but he made a very nice tackle to keep Juve's attacking play going. Amauri is in JOGA BONITO mode again, he's a beast.
  • a beaut of a header, ia.
  • al
    wow, iaq. the calabrian cannon
  • Apaz
I have that one in spanish

i'm wondering if diego will reach that level & consitency.
zidane is probably the very best footballplayer ever walked this earth

can anyone explain melo's situation plz, coz his red card came against lecce(?) on day 37, so he missed fiore's last game against milan...or do u get 2 match suspensions from red cards???
  • ned lowe
zebina injured AGAIN?! what a shame...everytime he appears 2 b gaining momentum, he gets crocked...looking 4wd 2 a great game 2morow...good debuts for ferrara, cannavaro and diego n above all a win for the team

  • agiamba
Sorry guys, I'm still working on getting DSL at my apartment so I haven't been able to post recently.

WTF Zebina though, I read on TMW that he has an achilles tendon issue, which is the same one he had last year and may be out for 3-4months. Fuck that useless Frenchman, seriously.

Can't wait for tomorrow either, adam. FACCI SOGNARE, CIRO!!
  • al
what happens with this zebina guy? he has constantly been unavailable for us.
  • Calisi
The game is also on ESPN360 for Verizon Fios subscribers (or people on university campuses that are on the Internet2 backbone thing).
