Haifa v. Juventus: Prove This Guy Wrong

By: roberto | November 3rd, 2009

“If Blanc wanted to show faith in Ferrara, he didn’t use the right words,” Moggi writes in the Libero newspaper. “That sentence ā€˜there are no more bonuses’ meant exactly the opposite.”

“He vented his disappointment at the weakest target: the coach. That’s a familiar method for those who don’t know anything about football. If Juve have showed problems against Napoli, it is down to a transfer campaign that was much celebrated but not at all pondered.”

“[Marco] Marchionni and [Cristiano] Zanetti have reinforced Fiorentina in exchange for bread crumbs. And Felipe Melo arrived from Florence for €25 million, but he does not have a curriculum to play for a team that must win in Italy and abroad, especially when you already have [Christian] Poulsen and [Mohamed] Sissoko,” said Moggi.

“And don’t get me started on Tiago…”

    according to gazzetta’s gamecast..

Subito molto attivo De Ceglie a sinistra: decisamente più energia rispetto a Tiago, anche se per ora senza risultati.

Phew, far from vintage stuff but we got the result we needed, and Bordeaux got the result we needed. As long as we don’t lose to Bayern, I think we’re in 2nd.

I didn’t watch the whole game but the parts that I saw where horrible, our team has to start playing better and has to be more ambitious. Three points are good and what we need but that kind of a game won’t do against Bayern, maybe Sissoko, Marchisio and Del Piero will be available by then.

why every coach loves tiago is beyond me. it was ranieri, now ferrara. why gio didnt start?

and ale, if we are 2nd, it will be very likely that we meet english team or barcelona or madrid (?) in the next stage.

Just one more win needed then. Couldnt watch the match, but apparently it was a snoozefest. Bayern are tottering, now is the time to knock them out.

The deciding match will be against Bayern…. we have some advantage in that they neeed to win, so we can play counter with Gio, Iaquinta(hope he is back) and Sissoko. We need our starters back. We can’t have Sissoko, Marchisio injured at the same time, and we can not have Poulsen and Tiago playing at the same time. Also MELO needs to step up his game. I have been watching him very attentively, he makes at least 1 goal-leading mis-passes every game. that is simply not good enough.

Completely agree with al, we need to go for the win in the next two matches and finish first in our group. Last year some strong teams finished second and we ended up being paired up with Chelsea (we all know how that worked out). This year all strong teams will finish first: Chelsea, Manchester, Lyon (unless Liverpool pulls off a miracle) and probably Barca, Sevilla and Arsenal. We are asking for trouble if we don’t win the next two matches.

Just a theroy, but maybe Ciro didn’t think little gio could hold up against the sloppy, bone crunching tackling of maccabi. Diego was getting chopped down left and right out there. While Gio could have drew some cards, maybe it’s better he didn’t risk getting added to the already long list of injuries. Anywho, we squeaked by with 3 points…

gio was apparently having muscular problem. i didnt watch the entire game, but from football italia, it seems that once again, gigi buffon is serious candidate of MoM.

That didn’t work out so well for us last season. I’m not worried either way- We can beat any team in the world, and we can lose to any of these teams.

why every coach loves tiago is beyond me. it was ranieri, now ferrara. why gio didnt start?

Giovinco had muscular issues, that’s why Tiago started. I’m sure Ferrara didn’t want to, but he didn’t have a whole lot of options.

Today showed the 4-2-3-1 isn’t heads-and-shoulders above the 4-3-1-2. Both depend on the form of our players.

sorry I disagree..I think the 4231 works well, especially when we have the right players…anyway it is a moot point as we have injured players.tiago still sucked today and if it wasn’t for gigi we would have drawn or worse. Let’s hope some of our guys coming back soon. I m wondering what will happen to the 4312 when diego needs to be rested? He should be against atlanta. Will we continue to draw like we did when he was injured?

Just got home after (another) long day at work. Did not see the game, but just saw the highlights and it looked like Diego was the best player on the pitch. He created a lot of chances and generally looked bright. I like that. I think that he’s been taking a bit too much criticism for our less than stellar performances. To me every time I’ve seen him he’s been at least decent. I still think by the end of the season he’ll be one of the best players in Europe – barring serious injury of course.

Don’t really care too much for the performance at this point, the 3 points are what mattered. Now we are 4 points ahead of Bayern, and with Bordeaux clinching their place in the knockout round with their win today I would expect that they may not go as hard when we meet them on the next matchday. That means the win in France just became more probable. And that means that with a win we qualify with a round to spare and Bayern are out. Great!

I think this time around, it would be better to win the group. It seems like all the big boys are going to win their groups this time around, unlike last year. While you don’t want to be afraid to face anyone, it’s a lot better to face an “easier” team in the 1st knockout round than one of the heavyweights. I would hate to have to face Barca or Man U so early in the competition. I would gladly take Real Madrid though :P

wow, another player injured in a pre-match warm up, this time it was giovinco who was sorely missed today. His last few performances have been quite promising, i was looking forward to seeing him tear up the left wing.

but back to my starting point, another player injured outside of the actual match. the exact same thing happened to iaquinta not long ago! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!!! is ferrara making them run up mount everest for the bloody warm up??!! i tell you what, ive made paper planes that have been more durable than these players

Regarding what Moggi said, I think the part about letting Zanetti and Marchionni go for bread crumbs is right. Both those players would have made things easier this season. Marchionni could play on the side of the 4-2-3-1, and Zanetti would have added some nice passing ability to the midfield.

And he is right that we over paid for Melo. We could have used a regista more. But still overall I’d say it was a solid mercato. Melo and Diego are both excellent players. Just would have been a hell of a lot better if we hung on to Zanetti and received a decent amount of cash for Marchionni. Also if we signed a RB.
