Concerning the 100m pound bid for Buffon:

I don’t know much about our clubs financial status but I’m guessing it’s not great . The demotion to Serie B definetly demolished our once considerable coffers; we had to sell our stars just to keep afloat (Does anyone know exactly how bad that hurt us?). With the renovation of the delle Apli we could probably use the extra cash.

I do agree with the sentiment that we need don’t need to recast the team with the money. We have what seems a very unified and solid team this year and the seeing multiple youth products deliver in big matches both in Italy and Europe is truly exhilaratingly.

I completely agree with “buffoniloveyoubut.” After all the dubious and generally shitty decisions they have made in the past, the choice to sell Buffon is a clear and obvious one. He might be the best ‘keeper in the world but we need to sell him.

And about Buffon, it’s not gonna happen. I don’t buy the “we could use the money either.” We don’t need a complete overhaul of the team. We just need to spend wisely, say a big purchase, a smaller, and a bosman. Like this summer, which I would say was successful. Splurge a bit on a vice-Nedved this summer, buy a solid defender, and we’re good.

I think the fact that we’re loaning him to Grasshoppers (supposedly) means he is far from being Juve’s #1.

For the record, Juve have only ever had 1 non-Italian starting keeper, Mr. VDS of Fulham, Ajax, and ManUre fame.

I think all will agree Julio Cesar is a top-notch keeper. Actually one of the Interistas who doesn’t really bother me. I was a bit surprised to see Buffon take the best keeper award over Frey and Cesar.

Julio Cesar’s awesome. And selling Gigi would be a sacrilege for me.
Well, unless he’d want to finish his career at Parma, but for now he’s far from it.
