Three Players To Miss Saturday’s Match… At Least

By: roberto | January 21st, 2009

Juventus-Fiorentina, the first match of the second round of the Serie A, will be off-limits for no less than four  three players after they were suspended by the sporting authorities: two bianconeri and two one viola. Claudio Ranieri will have to do without Cristian Molinaro and Momo Sissoko. Both players had reached their yellow card limit and were suspended after the one received against Lazio. The Mali player already had to miss the match in the first round due to a pending suspension from the previous season. On the other hand Grygera will be back. The only player to have reached the yellow card limit is Camoranesi.

Comotto will be suspended for Fiorentina. The ex-Torino defender was suspended after the yellow card he received against Milan while the attacker is in his second day of suspension after the red card received during the match against Lecce.

Health Update:

Afternoon training session for Juventus today yesterday following the day’s rest granted by Ranieri. The group at the disposal of Ranieri saw its numbers reduced: Buffon, Manninger, Tiago and Mellberg were not present since they are suffering of influenza. The first is on his way to recovery while the other three arrived in Vinovo feverish and had to return back home.

The team underwent an athletic and technical session before playing a series of 3-a-side matches. David Trezeguet trained regularly with the team since he is now fully recovered and must simply get back into form in order to be available. Pavel Nedved underwent a separate training session in order to recover from the energy spent in Rome and the fouls suffered against Lazio.

Chellini and Iaquinta also trained with the Czech player. The availability of the two players for Saturday’s match will be examined by not later then Friday. The players however will be back when it is ascertained that they will not be undergoing any type of risk with regards to further injury. Camoranesi also trained on the field but it is somewhat difficult to deduce he will be available for the match against Fiorentina.

With regards to the other injured players, there is good news for Jonathan Zebina who is scheduled to return to Turin on Thursday. The player’s situation is good and once back he will begin to undergo separate training two weeks ahead of the foreseen time-frame.

Knezevic will be completing physiotherapy shortly and will then begin to get back on the field. He will begin advanced training by mid-February.

Salihamidzic is currently at a clinic chosen by the Juventus medical staff. He is undergoing therapy for the injury to his Achilles tendon, however the possibility of surgery has not yet been taken into consideration.

Woo, good news at last! Especially about the goalies. Frankly, I don’t know that much about Nocchi or Chimenti, but I’d rather have Gigi or Manniger.

Mario Kirev is very promising but the Bulgarian media speculates that he will go to Grasshoppers on loan as it is difficult to gain experience in the current situation.

GUYS! does the purchase of this young Bulgarian shot stopper mean that management is considering selling Buffon at the end of this season or the next??

With Manniger playing so well and City purportedly wanting to buy Buffon for 100 million or so perhaps we could afford to let Gigi go..

    What do you think??

Man City are trying to purchase Shay Given from Newcastle. I hope they’ll get him and leave Gigi alone.

Ok, I love buffon as much as the next person, but for 100 million, you could almost buy an entire second team of players. I think emotionally it is near impossible to let him go but logically you would have to admit it makes sense and could possibly be best for the club if an offer like that materialized… look at inter for example, they manage to get it done relatively well with a shittastic keeper. With the defense juve have, no goalkeeper will do horrible, manninger has already proved himself to a respectable degree

Inter have a shittastic keeper!? Julio Cesar’s amazing! The team with shitty or average keepers would be Milan, not Inter.

Julio Cesar’s awesome. And selling Gigi would be a sacrilege for me.
Well, unless he’d want to finish his career at Parma, but for now he’s far from it.

“look at inter for example, they manage to get it done relatively well with a shittastic keeper”

I think I’ll file this one away to bring out later. I am sure that I can use this quote, ohhh somewhere…

Duly noted. Cesar is the worst goalkeeper in all the land.

juventus need the best italian keeper in the net. its standard issue. they need the best italian keeper and defender and they have that in buffon and chiellini

I think the fact that we’re loaning him to Grasshoppers (supposedly) means he is far from being Juve’s #1.

For the record, Juve have only ever had 1 non-Italian starting keeper, Mr. VDS of Fulham, Ajax, and ManUre fame.

I think all will agree Julio Cesar is a top-notch keeper. Actually one of the Interistas who doesn’t really bother me. I was a bit surprised to see Buffon take the best keeper award over Frey and Cesar.

And about Buffon, it’s not gonna happen. I don’t buy the “we could use the money either.” We don’t need a complete overhaul of the team. We just need to spend wisely, say a big purchase, a smaller, and a bosman. Like this summer, which I would say was successful. Splurge a bit on a vice-Nedved this summer, buy a solid defender, and we’re good.

Concerning the 100m pound bid for Buffon:

I don’t know much about our clubs financial status but I’m guessing it’s not great . The demotion to Serie B definetly demolished our once considerable coffers; we had to sell our stars just to keep afloat (Does anyone know exactly how bad that hurt us?). With the renovation of the delle Apli we could probably use the extra cash.

I do agree with the sentiment that we need don’t need to recast the team with the money. We have what seems a very unified and solid team this year and the seeing multiple youth products deliver in big matches both in Italy and Europe is truly exhilaratingly.

I completely agree with “buffoniloveyoubut.” After all the dubious and generally shitty decisions they have made in the past, the choice to sell Buffon is a clear and obvious one. He might be the best ‘keeper in the world but we need to sell him.
