Dario Knezevic e’ Bianconero

By: agiamba | June 30th, 2008

When speaking of the obligatory YouTube comp, even for defenders it is mostly goals, be it bullshit or not. Luckily, there is one for Dario Knezevic that primarily shows off his defensive skills. I don’t know too much about him, but this vid helps to inform us on our new defender. Except it’s a YouTube, and therefore means nothing. I haven’t particularly been impressed with Knezevic, and hell, his team just got relegated, but a loan can’t hurt, right? He probably won’t see too much playing time.

He’s on a season-long loan with an option to buy next summer. Best thing about the deal? Beating out the Toro to his signature at the last minute. (more than “best thing” it’s a giant warning bell. We’re competing with them for defenders?)

Welcome, Dario!

I wonder what him and Giovinco will choose with their preferred numbers taken.

If Tiago leaves, will Legro go back to #30?
  • KJ
I might have to get myself an Amauri kit...Anyone heard his #?
  • Guys, I'd like to invite you all to have a quick look on our Serie A forums. We (Juventini) are proud to invite more Juve fans to join us, any Calcio fan is undoubtedly welcome. Here's the website: www.serieaforums.com. Hope you'll like the forums.

headlines in italy are saying del piero is fearing his starting place
  • KJ
I like your away kit, the gold one..

    Palermo's new kits are U.G.L.Y.
  • agiamba
Depends on a lot of variables. Number one, what was the reason for missing out? If a team, be it Inter or Milan goes on an unprecedented streak to win then no, it'd be stupid to sack him just like he was sacked when Arsenal had the perfect season. Injury-ravaged? Probably not. I think Ranieri can deliver silverware, but we'll see. Also depends on if anyone is waiting in the wings, I would welcome Deschamps return (even if I like Ranieri) but I doubt given the ending to his last tenure it'd happen.
  • Anthony
Alessio if juve finish 3rd agian and no silverware will the juve board show raniei the door? or a good cl performace will keep him around im not feeling him as the coach that will lead us to glory.
  • agiamba
    Kappas were my favorite.

It'll be interesting to see which #s they choose. I don't know if Grygera has a preferred number, but he was #21 this year. Maybe Giovinco will take #20 now that Palladino's leaving. Also a question for Amauri, his favorite is #11 but no fuckin way he's getting it.
  • Anthony
dont like the black socks with the home kit. the away jersey should be blue with a 3rd kit opitonal gold/black.
  • vialli
i starting to believe this new Juve is better.

we still retain or spirit, we doesn't buy expensive world star player (we buy players that we need).

One flaw is the transfer director (secco).
but he's still young and lack of experience.
I think Secco should sharpen his negotiation skill rather than determining which players should he buy or sell. Leave that to the scouts and the coach.
  • adam
Who knows though maybe over time or just seeing them playing in it ill start liking it. Btw Giovinco still doesn't have a number yet. I'm guessing 21.
  • adam
Its too plain while at the same time they tried to make it flashy with the gold. I want Juve to go back to Kappa or Diadora.
  • agiamba
Really? I think it's pretty cool.

according to goal.com (probably a rumor strated by them) that were taking drenthe in from madrid on loan. what the hell.
  • Edgar
well, Aaron i'll give you that about the cwc not being a really prestigious cup, but i still think that the brazilian league is the toughest, put any european team, even Juve, in it and they will have problems. they have so many competitions going on State Championships, Copa Brasil, and their Serie A all of which are all really tightly contested and lets not forget about the South American Cups.
  • Well Alessio we are paying the price here with a full bore run at the Serie A and probably the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup not so much...
  • agiamba
I'm not sure sacrificing a season is worth a bit more marketing cash and a crappy trophy.
  • MAD, I do beleive that, especially with Maradona, it cost Italy the 90 WC. Napoli fans rooted against Italy!!! Can you imagine, all because of a guy they still deify in Naples.

Alessio: The CWC did cost us last season, and it is no longer a prestigious cup as it once was. However it is a important to win and compete because this is the best way to make a splash in Asia, as we just discussed.
  • agiamba
Edgar, I don't think the CWC can be used to measure league strength. Brazilians prescence in it doesn't mean they are great, just that they are better than the others. Other than Argentina's league which is structured weird, who else has a good league?

Second of all, European teams rarely take it seriously. That's one reason I was laughing at Milan this year, it's a Mickey Mouse cup (like the Coppa Italia right now) and it's embarrassing to think their entire season may have been sunk because of it.
  • agiamba
According to CalcioMercato (take it with a grain of salt) Atletico is keen on Tiago like last year and Fiorentina apparently likes Almiron. So they might be sold.

Xabi Alonso is on vacation so we might not hear too much news. But Juve is anxious to get him or Aquilani within the next week. Training starts monday for non-Euro players.
  • adam
Any news on Alonso and Cigarini?
  • MAD
GF: Umm wouldn't that argument work for any foreigner that got playing time in Italy? That he'd turn his training against you in the World Cup when he played for his own country, like Zidane or Maradona, for examples?

I think that considering the financial strength in general of Serie A clubs, South Americans are vital to us.
  • Edgar
-Actually, I think the Brazilian league is a top league and one of the hardest to play. Just think about after the new Club World Cup was made the only non-Brazilian team that won was Milan, and it can be argued that the South American representative was Boca not a Brazilian team.

-That said I would like to keep a team that has been developed by us not necessarily a young team.
  • Sushan[ACM]
and the important point is brazilians are a hell lot cheaper than players at european clubs. and ofcourse they are better :D. so you get better players for less cash . Gold mine!!!
  • Sushan[ACM]
If the brazilians played in their league , it would make their league a top class one. remember zico and his flamengo tore liverpool a new asshole when they met in the intercontinental cup
  • Alessio I am with you, I do not personally like Brazilians and outside of Kaka, they are all ego maniacs when it comes to their style and playing time and so on. Plus my gripe has always been why give Brazilians top class playing time in the a great league, so they can turn it against you in the WC. NOT COOL.
  • Sushan[ACM]
i prefer brazilians anyday. they produce players who at point will win ballon d'or . They are that good 8)
  • agiamba
Ultimately I'd like Juventus to incorporate more youth, but I don't expect a full XI of former youth team players. I'd like 1/3rd youth team, 1/3rd other Italians, and 1/3rd foreigners, preferably Europeans. Juve has traditionally taken Europeans over South Americans unlike all of our rivals, and I like that.
  • agiamba
Like always, the media goes too far. After Calciopoli when Juventus decided to focus more on youth the media went too far with it, assuming we planned to field a young Italian Starting XI. That's suicide. I think thus far, our deals have been good. We haven't been shedding our youth, for all intents and purposes we could easily bring them back. They are not all ready for Juventus XI and need to be loaned/farmed out to get experience.

In the same way, the media is overreacting now, with us loaning out youth they are proclaiming our plans dead. I don't think so. We brought back De Ceglie, Giovinco, and Marchisio and from the look of it, they will be getting some real playing time. Name me another big world-club that brings back 3 youth team players with an intention to play them. Not many. I expect next year to see Criscito and Palladino return, and Lanzafame in 2 or so.

Pasquato, Essabr, and Castiglia should all be loaned out.
  • Alessio whats your take on this...

    http://www.channel4.com/sport/...
  • Anthony
all depends is roma offer him first team football. and i think sensi would be dumb enough to let him go he almost sold totti to sampodoria in 97. keep our fingers crossed.
  • adam
I guarantee you if we do end up signing Aquilani it wont be because of Secco, it will be because of that phone call Chiellini made.
  • vialli
now i think understand Juve policy for youth sector.

They are either to be loaned or be given a chance on the 1st team. And then if they're not worthy enough, they will be :

    1. Use as a bargaining chip to buy players they want.
    2. Loan it out so they can get more experience so they're worthy enough for the 1st or good enough to be sold someday.
    3. Co-Ownership. Like adam said. For good profit. Their fate will be the same as no. 2

As long the club knows which youngsters are worthy (or have future) for Juve, i think it should be alright.
I'd prefer a couple of quality youngsters than a bunch of mediocre youngsters.

    Quality over Quantity.
  • Anthony
Labbate is right there only chess pieces. remember in 2003 we had like the best youngster's just to name a few miccoli maresca gasboroni... they never panned out
  • adam
I heard a rumour about the Lanzafame transfer and i hope its true. Appearantly Juve sold him for 5mil to make their annual fiscal reports better. And then bought back his half for 2.5 mil.
