Danish Bailout Package

Well done Christian, well done. Off of a greatly missed clearance effort by Catania, Christian Poulsen reacted perfectly with automatic-like form to slot Juventus’ winning goal just minutes after coming on. In a game that saw Iaquinta sent off early for being retarded, our 10 men side managed to sneak away with three points despite Marchionni and Legrottaglie’s best efforts to aid the home side.

Ranieri after the match:

“We had lost our shape, but we are finding it again. I was trying to find my team, which had gone missing in recent games and above all our shape and balance. Today we played well with 10 men against 11 and a Catania side that never gave up. We should erect a statue in Amauri’s honour for the way he kept the game alive right to the end.”

“Our problem is not scoring goals. No, our problem is that we give goals away too cheaply and at times we lose our unity. Sooner or later we do get a goal.”

Zenga after the match:

“We deserved more. Quite apart from refereeing decisions – which I refuse to comment on now – I am again forced to discuss a game in which we played well, had four or five chances and the opposition goalkeeper was Man of the Match. We played well, but made a mistake and lost a point. We can’t get to the final five minutes against Juve and lose the ball so much in midfield, giving away endless corner kicks.”

“The refereeing errors all seem to happen to us and someone is always impeding his vision of the incident. I don’t want to talk about it, though, as then I’ll get fines. I do not want to be fined and prefer giving my money to charity than to the Lega Calcio’s Disciplinary Commission.”

IERI… OGGI… DOMANI… SEMPRE JUVE!!!

Not to mention Trez is hardly an "immediate impact" striker.

I think everyone needs to give Ranieri a break. Yea, he put on Poulsen when most managers would put on another striker, but then what would happen if he put on Trez, and since then we have less defensive players, Catania scored again? Then we'd lose, and everyone would be saying he shouldve put on a mostly defensive player like Poulsen. He made the safe choice, and at this stage, every little point makes a difference. Plus, we have a very good shot at both the Champions League and the Scudetto this year, and thats with alot of players injured, or not back on form yet.

"MAD, Obinna and Balotelli only make the field when Mourinho is sufficiently pissed off with Adriano and frusterated enough with Quaresma (err) or Mancini."

Not true. It was Mourinho's plan to make a rotation of Balotelli, Ibra and Adriano in the middle forward. If Balotelli didn't lose it, he would be a regular contributor.

Mourinho's frustration with Quaresma, not so much Mancini, was what made him adopt a different formation. It had nothing to do with Balotelli. Figo alone can't man the right wing spot. That's why Quaresma was brought in. Didn't work out, no problem.

Santon got his spot on merit. There was no injury or personal problem with Maxwell.

I don't want to go name by name, but what I know of Ranieri, but I don't think those young guys got playing time because Ranieri wanted to develop the young squad members. There was a financial need last season coming up from Serie B not to buy a ton of replacements, and there was a lot of injury to vets these past 2 seasons.

"Bbbbbbahhhh who cares. I was distinctly unimpressed by Mancini’s 4-2-4 formation against Juve last season. Throwing on another striker may show ballsiness, but you could also y’know tactically rearrange a team."

Mancini is Mancini. We were talking about Mourinho.

Mourinho tries for the win because he has already figured out that with our defense, he makes out on points.

For example, in three different games drawn 1-1 he tries for the win. In one game he wins. One games ends 1-1. One game he loses. Thats 4 points. If he hangs on to draw he cuts his chances to win, making only 3 points the most likely outcome.

That's being a better manager in my book.

    1) I don't think Ranieri should be sacked, but he surely isn't the guy who will win trophies for us. This is a transition, ok, we tend to forget we were playing serie B two years ago, but he won't get my praise for putting Pousen when we are drawing 1-1 with Catania. If we win something this year (and I really hope so), it will be because of the great champions we have (and the fact that this might be one of their last chances to win anything due to their age, so they might put some extra effort). Ranieri is doing his job and there isn't any other coach who could replace him right now. All the world-class coaches have a team right now... or not? (2nd comment)

    2) Scolari has been sacked! Will this benefit us against chelsea? We will have to see. The fact that chelasea was playing so bad was a relief for me, but now they have the chance of getting everything fixed. For football's sake, I hope they improve their level and fight for premier's league title... but I hope this improvement begins after their champions league elimination against us :p

Scolari got sacked today, Grant will be tricky.

When Mourinho gets in a 1-1 draw, he puts on every attacker he can. When Renieri gets into 1-1 draw, he puts Paulson or de Ceglie to hold on to the point.

It's nice that Santon has actually gotten some minutes, but Nocerino, Chiellini, Molinaro, Criscito, and Marchisio have all gotten extended runs in the first team. Giovinco, De Ceglie, and Palladino have gotten some. Ranieri's doing a good job with our youth.
  • agiamba
yes because claudio has won two premier league titles and a champions league i hate mourinho more than any other manager but what you have just said clearly shows your incompetence when its comes to knowing anything about football!

I think Guardiola is a good manager, but I won't chalk this Liga title down to him.
  • sissoko man love
Your argument is redundant alex, many great players dive, its more a reflection on how many bad refs there are who in consequence get taken advantage of in this way. Nonetheless, Sissoko always breaks up play in midfield, and I agree with Benitez when he said he could be the next Viera

Where’s Giovinco? Does De Ceglie start? If it wasn’t for injuries to Lesser Zanetti would Marchisio start?"

Totally agree with this. You could even go a little further and say Chiellini may not have even been playing if Andrade's insides weren't made of Jell-O. Ranieri has done little to turn our young players into anything other than bench warmers. I am so tired of hearing Juventini using that lame excuse.

Personally, I am and never have been a fan of settling for a point. As far as I am concerned, there isn't much difference between a draw and a loss (it's just one point). I would much rather go all out for the winner and lose, than settle for a point and get it. And I find that mentality to be especially frustrating when you are supposedly challenging for a title.

Sissoko is the man. Him falling everywhere is a moot point because he clearly covers more ground than any other player on the field anyway.

"All of Inter’s problems under the tactically inept Mancini are still there, and his formation and transfers backfired hardcore."

And this is just silly. Inter's a better team than they were last season, anyone can see that. There's a lot less drama, Adriano is in house and playing, there aren't any fights and we have expanded our league lead rather than have it shrunk.

We made 4 transfers in, 3 are starting or contributing and one had to be loaned back out. The starter is playing incredible and was in a position that we needed help in. Hardly a hardcore backfire.

If Mourinho's formations are backfires, than how have we gotten to the top of the lead. We have the best goal difference and defense in the league.

    He's doing something right.

    Hey Alessio,

You can't really compare Deschamp's track record with Ranieri's. Put simply, Ranieri's been coaching teams for almost 20 years, with nothing to show for it but a Coppa Italia and a couple super cups. Deschamp only coached at monaco for about 4 years, and a year at juve, so I'd still give him some time to grow as a coach.

That said, I've been 100% against Ranieri's signing since the very beginning, but I still have to acknowledge the fact that he's holding Juve together through our injury crisis. And he just might get his first scudetto this year after all.
  • alex
my biggest problem with sissoko after watching him at liverpool and juventus is he cant pass, cant tackle without nearly killing someone, and the worst of all he dives ALL THE TIME!! what self respecting hardman midfielder dives like him all the time?! hes utter shite compared to what juventus have had in the past. seems to me you have man love for momo. and you cant justify molinaro in the slightest hes pathetic. looks like juve truly are the new inter if you accept these players as the future. juve have always had the best players not mediocre ones.

and you say ranieri is as good as mourinho? yes because claudio has won two premier league titles and a champions league i hate mourinho more than any other manager but what you have just said clearly shows your incompetence when its comes to knowing anything about football! and inter are still in front with 7 points
  • agiamba
Alex, you're seriously racist or something against Sissoko. He's not perfect, but he's probably been our best center-mid of the last year or so, only one to keep his spot, that's for sure. He had a fucking ridiculous game against Palermo last season (the 3-2 loss) maybe that's why you hate him. I don't know. But yes, he's up there with the other young Juventini. Molinaro has improved quite a bit over the last 3-4 months and I'm willing to give him a chance. Zambrotta was shiite at defending when we first bought him.

Vialli, that's kind of what I've thought too. Even if we don't win with Ranieri, if he gets Gio, Marchisio, Sissoko, etc in world-class form, a complete job.

By the way, everyone calls Ranieri a loser.....do we remember that he's won about as much as Deschamps? (who I would love to see as Juve manager) There's plenty of top flight managers out there who aren't Lippi. Personally, I think he's as about good as manager as Mourinho. All of Inter's problems under the tactically inept Mancini are still there, and his formation and transfers backfired hardcore.
  • alex
vialli you put sissoko and molinaro in the same bracket as de ceglie, giovinco and marchisio?!!!!! you wont win anything with sissoko as a starter, molinaro (the worst left back juve have ever had probably) and ranieri as manager who hasnt won anything. how can juve a team famous for its winning mentality have a man whos never won anything as their manager?!!! your management are crazy
  • KJ
Amauri got better service at Palermo...

Could you imagine if you kept Miccoli?
  • vialli
I don't think Ranieri is the perfect coach for Juve. But he is the perfect coach for Juventus transition. Look at what he did on Chelsea and what he's doing right now. Players like Giovinco, Marchisio, De Ceglie, Chielini, Molinaro, and Sissoko gradually are replacing our old guard. I don't think Ranieri will coaching Juve for long. But 'till the transition is complete (or near complete), he's the perfect one.

And, i am sure he could do more if we're not suffering with injury crisis.
  • agiamba
We are a very predictable team and when teams figure out that we only cross to Amauri then their work is done.

Oversimplification, by far. In fact, I'd say we're not crossing enough to Amauri recently.
  • agiamba
Wins aren't always pretty, and we probably didn't deserve 3 points. But credit to the team for battling against a tough home-team with 10 men for 80 minutes and still somehow grabbing the win.

I said this about Poulsen before and I'll say it again. Give him time. He was injured for 3 months, and came from a different league. He's succeeded in Germany and Spain and I'm confident he will in Italy. We also should remember that we signed him as part of backup or "part of a squad rotation", not as a starter and not as Xabi Alonso.
  • Sam
GIOVINCO HIP HIP HIP HIP!! GIOVINCO HIP HIP HIP HIP!!
  • Sam Dj
Adam, I wouldn't necessarily give Ranieri a perfect score either, but tactically speaking, he did pretty well against Real Madrid twice! (and yes, much credit to Del Piero as well) But I would understand your view considering Juve's performance since January.....we do need new signings to spark that much needed creativity. I think they relied 9way) too much on Del Piero and Camoranesi... Giovinco should definitely replace Nedved ASAP!
  • adam
Mike, I really have no clue why you would give Ranieri a perfect score. We might have injuries and fatigue, but the guy has to atleast come up with tactics. We are a very predictable team and when teams figure out that we only cross to Amauri then their work is done.

The sad thing is that he has some kind of immunity from the management.
  • Roberto, absolutely LOVE the title you chose for this post.

    Quoting from my match report:

[...] Of all people, the unlikely match-winner was last Summer’s most criticized Bianconeri recruit. In a period where everyone eagerly awaited the arrival of Xabi Alonso, the black & white fans had to settle for a rugged Danish defensive mid, a player whose fame in Italy was exclusively limited to a close encounter with Totti’s DNA during Euro 2004. And today him of all people, was Juve’s saviour.

To all the Juve fans ashamed of grabbing this win today, let me say this to you: this is just fu**ing payback for the all the shit karma has been dumping on us this year. It doesn't even begin to make up for the never-ending stream of injuries we suffered so far. If there's any justice left in this world, I expect another half-dozen last-minute victories before the season's over.

Oh, and thank $#&$(#@#@ God BUFFON is back. The gift that keeps on giving.
  • Sam
FUCK ILL TELLU WAT THE ANSWER TO ALL THIS IS! IT IS GIOVINCO!!! LOL, I LOVE THIS GUY TOO MUCH AND PLAYING FM IS MAKING ME LOVE HIM EVEN MORE!
  • Mike
Ranieri did something today, he put Iaquinta as a starter and he scored. He put Poulsen in and he scored. Catania is not an easy team to beat at home, let alone with a man down and half your players injured. We are at -7 from Inter even though we don't have the same depth and had key players out for most of the season. Seems to me that whatever Ranieri does will never be good enough.
  • Nnahoj
Until he proves otherwise...but I doubt it.
  • Nnahoj
I am with adam and Pablo.

Mike, if Ranieri was so concerned with fatigue, then why not make changes earlier, rather than waiting until the last fucking 5 minutes to make changes! He does this shit all the fucking time! Do something damn it!

Bringing on Poulsen was in order to secure the point, not take all 3. It just happened to work out well thanks to silly Catania defending.

Ranieri is a loser and always will be!
  • Mike
I'll give Ranieri a perfect score today. The decision to put Poulsen was the right one, and not only because he scored. This past wed Wed we played for 120 minuts, and today after 80 minutes down to 10 men, our boys were exhausted and removing a midfielder for Seba, ADP or Trez would have only made it easier for Catania to score one more.
  • Armando
Oh, and i forgot Buffon! The man of the match, really looked back in form tonight, was like a brick wall in front of the goal. Great game Gigi!!!
  • Second Adam and Pablo.
  • Armando
Camoranesi and Amauri especially had great games today. Amauri worked his ass off today and gave it his all, and i give him alot of respect and praise for that. He was working basically alone, once in a while with help from Camo (mostly), Nedved, or Marchionni, against 4, sometimes 5 Catania players on him. And it has to be noted that Camo's FIRST CROSS since being back from injury resulted in a goal, even if Iaquinta didnt think before he did anything tonight. Sissoko was also a workhorse tonight, he seemed to be everywhere, and Poulsen deserves praise for that last chance goal that put Juve ahead for the win. Forza Juve!!!
  • Sam
Fuck buffon was frikish tonight, but yeha i reckon we needed a performance like this o lift the team again!
  • Pablo
I totally agree with adam. It's not like the guys didn't want to win the game. They played 80 minutes with the disadvantage of being 10 against 11 and they gave their best (if their best is good enough for juve, that's another matter... I think some of them are). But if our coach puts Poulsen at the end of the game, he wasn't trying to win it. Poulsen scored, ok, but we were lucky and certainly we didn't deserved it. If Ranieri would have wanted to win the game he could have put ADP, Seba or even Trez with Amauri... And Amauri deserves a special mention: He hasn't scored for a while (and my fantasy team is resenting it), but today he played a great game. He was frustrated, but who wouldn't be after 80 minutes fighting alone against 4 or 5 defenders.

This is getting too long, I'm sorry, but I'm not as happy as I should be. One needs to get lucky to win a scudetto (specially when the team isn't the machine we all would like it to be), but our (coach's) attitude wasn't the right one. I don't mind finishing 2nd at the end if we tried to win the scudetto. I prefer to fight for the first place and lose than fight for the 2nd and win.
