D-Day Awaits…

d-day

«Unfortunately we missed out on another of the season’s objectives. The situation is difficult and for this reason we are sad, but we have been conscious of this for a number of weeks. Tomorrow we will make known our decision».

A pretty damning statement. Given Blanc’s ominous words, the Calcio newspapers are in overdrive proclaiming that Ferrara will be sacked tomorrow. I don’t know why, but I think I have a radar for when the coach will truly be sacked…for some reason the Atalanta game last season just smacked me and said, “This game is Ranieri’s last,” despite many poor games before that. I didn’t think the board would can him after the Roma game, but it was obviously getting close, it does not appear Ciro can right the ship. Today was a confirmation, and Blanc’s words obvious indicate a change is coming, I get that feeling as well. They already had their “crisis meeting” in which they confirmed Ciro…I don’t get the feeling they will be coming out of the meeting tomorrow backing him. There’s a lot of problems in the team beyond Ciro, but sacking the coach is easier than forcing Blanc+co to resign…or overhauling the team immediately.

Ciro is taking this in stride, classy as ever-

«Up until now nobody has told me anything, so as far as I know I’ll lead tomorrow’s training session. Whoever does this job can make mistakes and we are subject to criticism. Tomorrow I will be regularly in Vinovo unless there are any indications tonight».

I do wonder if the team has any successor lined up…or if there’s going to be a week or two under a caretaker coach, which I think would be quite harmful. Is the successor going to be in charge for the next 5 months, or is this going to be a long term thing? Whatever the changes, whoever takes in charge…this’ll be our 5th head coach in 5 years. Not good.

  • Zaccheroni post up. Man Vercingetorix, that pre-calciopoli/post-calciopoli coaching list is incredibly telling.

i thought lolito was cool, haha, his war with pandev and ledesma (if i'm not wrong) was amusing, he showed them whose boss, that guy is a match for zamparini, full of fire

unlike our dear board of course, they are pretty useless except for their business acumen, i'm talking about the business and finance side of football, secco and football business acumen would never be placed in the same sentence
  • Vercingetorix
Hiddink, Benitez and the like are not going to jump ship middle of the season. Since the season is in shambles and we do have quality players coming back from injury we should use this opportunity to see where and what needs strengthening for the summer mercato. I for one want to see players we already have or half-have playing: criscito, elkdal, giovinco, immobile, marrone, yago or rossi. Secco, Blanc, and to a lesser extent Ferrara, are culpable for this season's disappointment. I feel like we have to rebuild the team for the SECOND time in FOUR years. Lets do it the right way this time and not bring in the likes of Poulsen, Almiron, Tiago, Molinaro and the expensively embarrassing flops Melo and Amauri.

I feel sorry for Ciro, mainly because of his time as a rock solid defender for Juve (including our last CL triumph over Ajax!) Take a look at our managers pre-calciopoli: Trap, Lippi, Ancelotti, Lippi, Capello. Post: Deschamps, Ranieri, Ferrara, and now Zaccheroni.

And if rumors are to be believed we are trying for Benitez!? NO NO NO NO NO NO. I watch his crap every weekend in the PL and he has yet to deliver the title for 'pool and his CL victory was courtesy of a Milan capitulation. His side was outclassed in the '07 final if you remember. His transfers generally suck, his eye for young talent generally sucks, and guess what? I hope we don't bring him in in the summer.

    Arrivederci Ferrara and forza juve

So I guess it's Zaccheronni then, listen after spending some time yesterday analizing it, Ciro is an unexperience coach, but the real fault, i mean the real REAL FAULT, it's SECCO.and Blanc, Gigli, should take part also of the blame.
Buying all this brazilians, who are we Milan?? Except for Diego who will be a Crack in a few years, Melo and Amauri suck, and stop wasting your time in rafihna also. I have nothing agains brazilian players, but history shows, they don't go well with us.

Whatever happend to our future, Giovinco?Criscito?Palladino? I mean, look at this numbers 35, 35, 33, 32, 32, 34 this are the ages of some of our best players, ADP,trezegol,Camo,Buffon and even some of our regulars, Cannavaro,Legro,Brazzo.

I can´t believe i´m saying this but bring back Gigli

    Aquila a due teste: Miredita!
Every single Juve fan on this board and in the world is aware of the fact that "the french dude"(Jean Claude Blanc) and the Sporting Director(Alessio Secco) should not be holding the positions they are. They're inexperienced idiots who are slowly turning this Juve into the Inter of the 90's. Unfortunately, unless we go to Serie B, both Blanc and Secco will keep their positions. And Lotito is one stubborn idiot.
  • j
my last stand after the inter loss after procrastinating for so long was for ciro to go, i got to agree with Marco, he was too soft for refusing to bench underperforming players, this will NEVER happen with mourinho, you play bad, you sit out, period.
  • Marco
I mean - "Capello at this team, a guy who **doesn't give a fuck about the reputation or clout a player has and will play someone simply based on form and team contribution"
  • Marco
zaccheroni is fine. But I do agree with drew, the youth needs to get playing time now. but they wont.

I don't know why you are all sad about the firing of ferrara, sure he was a classy defenceman, and a great guy but come on. Coaches come and go all the time, and frankly he outlived his stay. You could tell how weak he was by the fact that he wouldn't bench the likes of melo or amauri. He continuously resorted to the under performing grosso and cannavaro when it was obvious these guys were capable. The players with the most clout played and those that maybe should have played were benched. He only managed to bench Cannavaro at long last last weekend. But quickly went back to him for inter. Come on. I personally want a coach like Capello at this team, a guy who does give a fuck about the reputation or clout a player has and will play someone simply based on form and team contribution, that's what we need from here on in, espectially with the amount of young players itching to get into the top team. Example, we haven't been able to score, iaquinta is injured, then trez gets injured, Amauri fans on everything, so what does ferrara do - continue to play amauri - how many chances has Immobile gotten the last 6 weeks? 2 months? this season? Grosso's been awful all year, yet, how many times has deceglie come to play for him? Instead the kid has to wait until the lineup is DECIMATED to get an opportunity. No wonder these kids come out and they don't impress, they scared of making a mistake, cause one mistake will crucify them to the bench for an eternity. Imagine a Giovinco full of confidence?
Thank you Ferrara for a job done, hopefully your sacking will send a message to Mr. Marcello Lippi. Good luck to Zaccheroni and hopefully you are successful. Note to the wise, bench amauri and melo against lazio and consider having diego come off the bench (he's overworked and burnt out - you can tell)Start a rash of young guys, and see what happens, they'll be itching to impress, not to mention del piero should be ready for lazio.
  • Godson Hernandez
Finally, we've fired Ferrara.............for someone that's not much better. Zac may have won one Scudetto but that's about it. He's been fired four times and doesn't exactly have a history of stabilizing teams or turning their fortunes around. What does that say about the management. Fine, we don't have many options as there are not many good unemployed coaches but couldn't we seriously do better than a coach that's won only one trophy and has been fired four times-the last of which was at Torino, our city rivals in relegation? Seriously?
  • j
now zaccheroni is next, is he good? the sackings were scary, i read he favor 3-4-3, surely not lego-chell-canna? we can if we have terry-chell-nesta, does he favor youngsters, what about slightly older ones like 23-yr-old-why-he-didnt-start giovinco? is he the dictator of the team, like capello, who will ruthlessly strike down flops like amauri?
  • j
thanks for everything ciro, you let us dream after we won against lazio and roma, but it just isn't meant to be, we welcome your return to our youth academy, but we'll understand if you choose not to,

maybe next time after you have gained more experience, you'll finish the story with the appropriate ending, so for now, take care, you'll always be a legend, thanks ciro.
  • Daniel
Who the fudge is Zaccheroni? Sorry, I'm brazilian and only 18.
  • drew
I just wikipedia'd zaccheroni...he's won 1 scudetto with milan. hes been sacked like 4 times - milan, lazio, inter and torino. how is this guy going to help this shambles of a squad? IMO we should call it a season and stop the embarassment now. Heal all of our injuries and train for next season - i'm dead serious. We should just play all of our youth products and let them secure a europa spot - they are capable, then just start over - hit the reboot.
  • Robee
As for Ferrara, thanks for all the efforts and I really hope he can continue his work with the youth teams. Great job there!
  • ooBia
Thanks a lot Ferrara. you are a true warrior and I wish you a very excellent managerial career. you will always be a true legend.
  • Robee
The timing of change is absolutely hilarious... Our last objective is gone, so let's fire our coach... Jezus f*cking Christ...

Zaccheroni ain't that bad, 'though not a world-beater, he is experienced and plays attacking minded football, which could do us some good.

He is retrieving Giovinco next week, Iaquinta & Camo in another week or 2, so that should give him lots of possibilities to work with. I'm just hoping he does well, but still Blanc shouldn't extend his contract anyway this summer. We need something else.
  • al
    Grazie Ferrara!

    http://www.tuttojuve.com/?acti...

I followed Juve long time ago when he was playing.

Today is truly a sad day. The same sad day I had experienced when I heard he suffered injury few weeks before the WC98.

And yes Alessio, I hope it is ariverdeci rather than ciao.
  • Nicolo
Hope Ferrara is reinstated to the youth or picked up by lippi as assistant again
  • Mo
It's official people Zaccaroni is our new guy! There is no way we can play a 3-4-3 formation with the kind of players we got...especially considering that those that can play wide are injured.
  • Marco
Ciro is out Zaccheroni is in...
    http://www.google.com/hostedne...
  • sad day for all of us
  • Alastair
Not the worst choice, at least for four months. Hopefully there will be an immediate impact and response from the players.

I am so sorry, Ciro, that it had to be this way. You didn't deserve to be put in this position by the people "directing" this club.
  • Looks like it's ZACCHERONI people...
  • ned lowe
don't hold ur breath alessio, blanc n co. will come out with another statement reaffirming ciro and filled with more of that "the project continues" b.s.
things really r ugly at the moment...we r unlikely to get anyone worthwhile at the moment bcuz it's midseason and no one worthwhile is unemployed at the moment
for some reason i'm not very keen on gentile/zaccheroni, trapatoni woulda been my choice but i hear he does'nt want the job
truth is, anyone we get now knows that he's a temp until a substantive appointment is made in the summer n that reduces the appeal of the job for any worthwhile manager
gentile/zaccheroni would come in, get 2/3 good results before the slump sets in again...
i really do not wish to see lippi return on the bench or on the board,he's played his role in our history n we should move on...
if we can get benitez to commit to joining us in the summer, then i'd say game on...
  • I thought De Ceglie was better than that - but maybe I am swayed by his flowing locks.
  • agiamba
I'll look for it tomorrow, Sebastien.

Btw, LaStampa's ratings for the Inter-Juve Coppa match.
    Buffon- 6
    Grygera- 6
    Chiellini- 6.5
    Grosso- 6
Candreva- 5 (Seemed he didn't know what to do :( )
    Sissoko- 5
    Melo- 6.5
    De Ceglie- 6
    Diego- 6.5

Cannavaro/Amauri spared ratings, for some reason.
  • Sebastien
Does anyone have the list that was published a while back with the injuries of Juve players that have happened since this season?
  • agiamba
    O_man did not make a mistake...he's not a fan of Sissoko. :)

I agree o_man. We're not playing that awful but with the team in the slide it is, and poor luck, the results just aren't going our way. Like jorid, I'd keep Sissoko and Grygera of the ones you mentioned.

I feel for Ferrara, the team wasn't put together that well and he's dealing with just an unbelievable amount of injuries, currently at #44 I believe. But, as I said, it's easier to sack him than revolutionize the squad or change management, both of which are needed and probably won't happen. He's been classy the whole period as our manager. I hope this isn't a "ciao" but an "arrivederci."
  • Jorid
o_man: I demand an apology lol. Please tell me you made a mistake when you mentioned Sissoko's name up there. Momo is Juve's best signing post-Calciopoli and he could easily start in any other major team. Also, I could live with Grygera. He's certainly not starting material, but he's a decent player. The rest, should go and play for U.S Poggibonsi or Real Marcianese for as much as I care.
  • o_man
btw i still think we didn't deserve to lose to roma or milan but when your luck is down it's down and there is nothing you can do about it.you can tell we improved in terms of team play and tactics but its just the lack of luck that has kept the team down.I hope Grosso,Cazzomerda,Grygera,Amauri,Sissoko,Blanc,Secco and Zebina drop dead this instant
  • o_man
    fuck amauri lool
