Well.. you could very well end up with Valencia, Zaragoza or Osasuna in those places. That would be very unfortunate for the other leagues. Exceptions need to be made for the teams who have underachieved terribly that season or something. Don't let teams like Valencia or Lazio compete.. Valencia because they have got great players, and Lazio because.. well.. they're just terrible.

haha this is sadly a very goood idea! I mean its not fair that they will never get to experience a European competition. This is perfect!

This is so funny. I was thinking about this the other day.

I can picture it now. All the mid table teams scoring own goals of desperation to somehow forge there way into the competition.

not only that we can also have the top two teams that have just been promoted from each of those leagues to make it a total of 16 teams one match knock out competition

Spain
Recreativo, Osasuna, Numancia and Malaga

England
Bolton, Reading, West Brom and Stoke City

Italy
Torino, Empoli, Chievo and AlbinoLeffe

France
Toulouse, Lens, Le Havre and Nantes

Recreativo v Nantes	Nantes
Bolton v AlbinoLeffe	AlbinoLeffe-
Torino v Stoke City	Toro
Tolouse v Malaga	Toulouse-
Osasuna v Chievo	Osasuna-
Reading v Le Havre	Reading
Empoli v West Brom	West Brom
Lens v Numancia Lens

Nantes v West Brom	West Brom
AlbinoLeffe v Lens	Lens-
Toro v Reading Toro-
Toulouse v Osasuna	Osasuna-

West Brom v Osasuna	Osasuna-
Lens v Toro Toro-

Final would be Toro v Osasuna and Osasuna would probably win it all.

-=matches i wouldn't mind watching specially during the summer when there's nothing on but transfer market

Imagine if it was Zaragoza instead of Recreativo or PSG for Lens or Reggina/Lazio for Empoli this competition might have a mix of historic teams like PSG, Bolton and Toro, Lazio and some that have been breaking the top side of their leagues in recent years such as Reading, Chievo and Osasuna, and several underachievers like Reggina and in some years we might get to see Portsmouth, Blackburn, Napoli, Genoa, Racing and Getafe

I'm with Chris - I think Osasuna would take it. I'd love to see a tournament like this. I'd watch it, though I doubt many others would.

Dude, this is awesome. Just a 1 match knockout competition during the summer between the top 4 leagues 17th position teams. That would probably end up as Reading vs Osasuna and PSG vs Empoli

it the words of puppet jose: Its fantastic. Very nice.

I like the idea.

Right now? Osasuna. I think I'd put more money on Reggina or Livorno than Toro or Empoli, sadly.

yeah, that's why i wasn't thinking a season-long battle alla champions league/uefa cup. far too taxing, it'd be unreasonable. maybe during the winter break (if the EPL institutes one) or in the summer. i dunno, just a funny thought.

on a side note, who do you think would win? if you took the two teams immediately above relegation...

Recreativo Huelva and Osasuana from La Liga
Empoli and the Toro from Serie A (weren't both potentially aiming uefa cup this season...)
Bolton and Reading from the EPL

It'd have to be the reserve teams, because most relegation battlers can't afford to be in a European competition and still have a prayer of surviving.

If thats the case, we should apply it to Cinderella teams like AlbinoLeffe. God knows with shear heart of the players, and you factor in the lack of supporters this team has (three supporters on away game?), they deserve a chance in UEFA more than anyone in Serie A. And they'll be in Serie A next fall.
