Benvenuto Grosso

By: alessio | August 31st, 2009

The transfer of the Italian international defender has been finalized thanks to a substantial effort from the Piedmontese club who accepted to increase their offer to €2million plus €1million in future sport performance bonuses.

It still isn’t on Juve’s page quite yet, but if Lyon says it’s true, I’ll take it. No word on contract length, Goal.com says a laughably long 3-years, it’ll be more like 1 or 2, the salary is rumored to be €1.2million. It’s not the Palermo defender I wanted, but he’s a good player and it’ll help the Azzurri.

EDIT 245EST: It’s now on Juve’s page, and Goal.com was right, a 3-year contract. That seems absurdly long for a player of his age…somewhere in Florence an equally old midfielder is cursing Secco’s name. A bit too long for my liking, but I’m pleased to have Grosso in Turin.

If we sign Zambrotta, I will kill someone.

With the number of left backs we have I don’t know if he will be to keen on coming back. We have Grosso, PDC and Molinaro, also Chiellini can play there. I think to convince him to come we will need to get rid of Molinaro for sure and even PDC, unless we find them a different place to play on the team

ooBia: Thank you for the awesome article. The 70’s-80’s Juve was phenomenal, I wish I would have been born earlier haha. Just so I could have watched Scirea, Platini, Zoff, Gentile, Cabrini, Tardelli and Boniek play, but especially Scirea, who from what I’ve read, seen and heard was an incredible player. And I guess Gentile to, just cause he would eat opponents alive lol.

I reckon Criscito will be at Genoa for the 2010/11 season too. Good thing we still co-own him. He would be the perfect replacement for Grosso in 2 years. Or we could buy him out next season if De Ceglie isn’t a reliable second-choice LB, and send the latter on loan. Grosso and Criscito as our LB options. Mmm…

Molinaro really should be sold in January. No point staying, is there? Ferrara clearly rates Grosso, De Ceglie, Brazzo and Chiellini higher than Moli for that LB spot.

Guys, I hear congrats are in order for our boy Marchisio. He and his wife have had their first child, a boy named Davide (someone could check the Juve website and tell me if I’m interpreting that correctly).

Great times for our boys! Looks like we have another great talent named Marchisio to look forward to!

All the best to him, his wife and his newborn.

That is true indeed, yesterday afternoon their son was born, that’s why he showed up to Italy training camp a day late.

I dont antcipate Grosso starting every match. De Ceglie and Molinaro will be able to ease into Serie A, offering Juventus much more in the next few years. These next two years with Grosso will help with the transistion of these young prodigys making them viable – reliable stars and worse case scenario good bargaining bait.

What i am concerned about is Gio – he is by far the best young talent in Italy – only one who can compete is Gisseppe Rossi….. but Gio is not apart of the big picture for the Azzuri – this kid needs to be at this World Cup even if he doesnt play to get a taste of the atmosphere – because the following World Cup will be his.

Juve needs to incoporate him in this line up and with more contunity.

    Bravo Grosso….

Well said Marco. I think Seba needs to keep seeing significant minutes, even if Diego is to be the protagonist.

Have faith that Ferrara is smart enough to do this, for the sake of club and country

Do you think we can get Molinaro, PDC, or Grosso to play on the right at all? For me, Grygera offered nothing last game. Zebina needs to hurry up…

“Do you think we can get Molinaro, PDC, or Grosso to play on the right at all? For me, Grygera offered nothing last game.”

Short answer, no. Molinaro cannot even play on the left, De Ceglie looked EXTREMELY awkward on the right (Ranieri tried him out there atleast once) and is best suited for that left wing, and Grosso’s our first choice LB, so no point wasting him on the right. Brazzo and Caceres are much better options for RB.

I don’t think Grygera is that awful at RB, I think he’s as good defensively as Zebina and sometimes better, like he played quite well in the Roma game. I still think we need to kick out JZ15 as soon as possible.

There is no way Grosso took a big check cut to join Juve.
He had 2 yr left on his contract in Lyon and was making

5 Fabio Grosso (OL) : 3.9 million euros
    http://en.afrik.com/article15522.html

In France the withholding/taxes are hgher then Italy, so even the rumored 1.5m Euros is probably NET ! Gross being around 3m Euros..

I wouldn’t be surprised if he did take that kind of paycut. Not too many players are making more than 3mil net at Juve, and he already passed on a 500k bonus Lyon owed him to facilitate the move.

My 2 cents…….. Grosso probably is getting 2.5m Euros Gross or approx 1.3+ Net @ Juve for next 3 yrs…

    NO WAY 1.25 is Gross…

The article? It’s pulled from a few sources, there isn’t one sole one, although I could put one up. If you mean the CAF/CF documents, the ones used to “convict” Juve, then yeah, email me at agiamba [at] gmail (dot) com.

Juve fans are quick to want to discard our players who aren’t recognized international stars. Molinaro is unfairly treated by Juve fans. He’s as good as Grosso at this point. We’re not getting 2006 Grosso. Lyon didn’t let him go for short money because he’s at the top of his game. He’s no Evra. Molinaro is faster and has more upside than Grosso, but Grosso is adored for what he accomplished for Italy 3 years ago. Last year many Juve fans trashed Marchionni and adored Marchisio. Marchionni played lights out while Camoranesi was injured. Marchisio is a work in progress at best. Now Marchionni is playing 90 minutes/game for Fiorentina, and also starting for Italy. Grygera also judged too harshly. Juve’s problems have not been with its defense. Juve’s hangers on are Zebina and Tiago. Time for them to go to make room for our up and comers. Further prediction — we’ll be sick and tired of Melo by mid season. Too many divas in the middle of the field and too little teamwork.

Marchionni was incredibly inconsistent and his touch was heavier than lead. Singlehandedly cost us points against both Inter and Milan. We don’t need him anymore, he’s a winger and he won’t be starting for Italy for long.

Molinaro is decent, but Grosso is better. Lyon let him go because he had 1 year left on his contract and they are rebuilding, same reason Juninho left. Finally, we’ll have a starting left-back that can cross.
