A Very Interactive Post- (Poll and Caption This!)

By: alessio | August 11th, 2009

Ivo was curious about the optimism of the Juventini on this site, and per his (her?) suggestion, here is the Poll of the Day. This weeks Caption This! and last weeks winners after the jump.

Will Juventus win the Scudetto next year?(poll)

I’m interested to see what others think given the mercato. If we had managed to offload Zebina and Almiron instead of Zanetti and Mellberg, I would have declared this mercato a brilliant success. The sales have been quite off though. Anyways, this week’s Caption This comes from the 4-1 drubbing from Villarreal. Good luck!

Also, the winning entries for last week(s) Caption This!

Winner: DJP- “Gio: “You know, I’ve always been told that size doesn’t really matter.””

Winner: jots- #2…..”So easy a caveman can do it”

Winner: HolyMann- Raul: Thought you could run away before i give you your last spanking
Cannavaro: hehehe, i knew you’d find me

    @ al

I am still convinced that inter is having at least a mercato equal to ours… They have Lucio, Thiago Motta, Milito, Eto’o, haven’t even spent a cent if you consider the sale of Ibra plus they are still searching a trequartista like Sneijder or Van der Vaart… If they do manage to get one of these 2, I don’t see why Juve would have the advantage above them. Maybe we can make up for our lack of ability with spirit and I hope so, but anyway, it’s going to be a long run !!
Then there is Roma, not talking about there stupidity but Milan isn’t doing so bad at all. Huntelaar is just what they needed, and now they’re talking about De Silvestri… If Ronaldinho revives, they could turn out to be the “surprise package” of this season.

I’m not saying Zanetti would make all the difference, but selling him for a lousy 2M was about the stupidest move he could’ve made… Zanetti could still add a lot to our midfield. And with Camoranesi obviously being his injuried self again, it could turn out to be a costly move.

you make it seem like zanetti is the key to winning serie a…he was good and all…but not great…i can live with the deal…they’ll be fine without him…his “injured self again”….the same could be said for zanetti..

Zanetti is old and injury prone, what team in their right mind would pay more than 2-3 million for him?

He has one season left on his contract and will most likely be fit for 20% of the season. This deal makes alot of sense as now there is more space for Marchisio to develop, we make some money, and there is one less salary to pay.

Then just don’t sell him at all… About 20% of the season is harsh nonsens, you know that, last year there were a lot of problems with injuries and Zanetti showed us he has much more to offer, he was the main component why we stood up again in the end of last season, with Sissoko out in my point of view.
He has had a lot of injuries, but saying he makes space for Marchisio to develop is not a good reason, I think, then we just shouldn’t have bought Melo at that price… Kept more than 20 million in our pockets and invested in a full-back…

“Then just don’t sell him at all” Why keep him if he’s gonna feature no more than 10 games, it makes no difference if he’s here or not other than the fact that we get 2 million and we don’t have to worry about his salary.

“he was the main component why we stood up again in the end of last season”, Are you serious? We went 6 or 7 games with out winning, if anything we crawled our way back to second place.

The good thing about Melo is that he breaks up alot of plays, something that Sissoko also does. Another good thing about Melo is that he has very good long passes which Sissoko doesn’t. Sissoko looks like he is out until mid January, while Melo should be available throughout the entire season.

If you’re talking about long passes, Melo is no where near Zanetti’s breaking up play passes… And I’m talking about the last 2 games where Zanetti dictated the play and also scored 2 goals if I’m not mistaken, one of which a true beauty…

And how would you know he’s not going to feature in more than 10 games, you know that’s just talking nonsens…
Why do we even have a third goalie if he’s not even playing 10 games ? Why are we keeping Poulsen ? Fiorentina just got itself a perfect replacement for Melo.

The point is there were way better moves to make than getting rid of the one player that can truly dictate our tempo. Zebina, Grygera, Molinaro, all of them not worthy of wearing a juve shirt… And even in midfield keeping Poulsen and Tiago who haven’t showed nothing…

If you sell Grygera, Zebina, and Molinaro that means we would have to buy 3 more fullbacks with about 7-10 million that we will make off of them. Tell me what fullback we could buy in this market for around 3 million each that would be an upgrade over these 3?

Secco has tried to sell both Tiago and Poulsen, it’s either the team isn’t good enough or problems with the salary. In other words they simply did not want to leave. He can’t sell them for free because unlike Zanetti we did not get them for free. We can only hope that they do some good this season and then we can sell them.

    @ adam

It’s his own fault they don’t want to leave… He gave them a fat paycheck and not any other team is that nuts of paying them that much…

Getting for free so selling for almost nothing is also stupid management, try and get all the profit you can out of everyone… No matter what…

And I’m not talking about selling all of our full-backs, but for instance Grygera could easily deliver us 4-5 M which would do for an italian talent like De Silvestri… If that ain’t an upgrade, then we’re done here.

Molinaro wouldn’t come cheap either, has a long contract and plays almost every match… So if he hadn’t been stupid in january, Secco could have brought back Criscito for free…

He made a mess out of it, and now he’s only experiencing problems he created himself…

hey guys, didn’t see the way marchisio play in italy ???? goal.com pointed at him

pretty gooood, makes me forget zanetti. come on, guys !!! he is good, but our team needs rejuvenation. and secco did very well in this part, sell oldie players and buy just one old player (canna) with one year only contract. the rest is young guns. melo, diego, and caceres. all of them are young but got experience play at the top levels. leaded by buffon, canna, camo,ADP and trez, our team gonna piss inter off. inter signs all oldie crack that just make them play slower. milito and motta can’t replace ibra, and lucio wouldn’t contribute so much given that cordoba and chivu had done a great job.

    forza juve !!!

Move on people, Melo is in and overpriced, Zanetti was undervalued and he left. Secco made what seems to be a mistake right now, but at the end of the season we can see how it pans out. Nothing we can do but sit back and yell our hearts out for the Bianconeri. GRANDE JUVE!

    From the Juventus HomePage:
Finally an answer by the Juventus coach to former player Cristiano Zanetti: «When I was appointed coach by the directors I was told that he was a player on whom I could count. During the training camp he was really dedicated and I was very happy with his work. Last week Zanetti came to speak to me and asked me how the situation in midfield was. I answered that with the arrival of Felipe Melo competition has increased but that there will be room for everyone. He seemed satisfied with our dialogue but then he went to speak to Alessio Secco. Afterwards the situation seems to have changed so much so that he asked me not to consider him for the match against Villareal. I am saying this because it is only right for everyone to take his responsibilities with regards to what he says and does».

I think we can move on now. Good luck, Zanetti.

Robee he did make a mess out of things with regards to Criscito, Poulsen, and Tiago. But Criscito wanted to get out after the way he was treated, we wanted him to develop and most clubs wont do that without an option to buy. Poulsen was specificaly requested by our former coach, and Tiago has flopped because of our former coach’s tactics. This year he should do much better.

Grygera will not get us more than 2-3 million. We got him for free and other clubs know that, so any deal we make will be profit. Also clubs wont pay 4-5 million on him because he is no where near world class and most likely their current right back is on the same level as him. De Silvestri would not come for 5 million and Lazio and all of Italy know that.

Melo used to kick ass… in Flamengo! Many years ago! Didn’t you guys watch the Brazil-Estonia match? He almost butchered the enemies. They did it too, but hey!
I’m still trying to figure out how can ADP and Diego play together. Without messing the Amauri Iaquinta duetto.

    ps: I’m brazilian.

    adam,
De Silvestri only has one year left on his contract, so he won’t cost over 5 million, pretty sure of that… He’s quite a telent, but nothing more than that for now…

I know fucking Ranieri messed it all up for us, else we would’ve had Xabi now, stupid fucker…

Anyway: Tuttosport says Sissoko will be injured until December, due to a fault made in his operation… That leaves us with Marchisio, Melo… Poulsen, Tiago, Almiron… and Camoranesi, from whom we don’t know how bad his injury is, hopefully it was just a measure of precaution.
