1-1: Well That Was Painful…

By: roberto | February 6th, 2010

Caceres worked brilliantly on the right side in the first half, yet the others did almost everything they could to avoid giving him the ball. Unbelievable. We’ve once again resorted to the long ball. Depressing. No one’s moving forward off the ball because we’re too concerned with conceding goals. Catastrophic.

rubinho

Now that’s truly impressive.

All week we’ve been hearing about this game against Livorno and how our boys are going to play determined to win. The truth is, I completely believe them. I expect a tremendous display of football from our side and quasi-landslide victory against Livorno. The Zac is going to get his three points here as he’ll hope to use the Amaranti as a spring board to bigger and better things. More specifically, a streak of victories.

What was I smoking? If by “quasi-landslide victory” I meant “fortunate to escape Livorno with a single point”, then I’d have something to gloat about. Boy was I wrong. Dead wrong. That was a tremendous display of what exactly you ask? An example of just how far the mighty have fallen probably.

alessio’s Pagelle:

Buffon- 6: Didn’t have a whole lot to do until the end of the match, but remained attentive throughout.

Legrottaglie- 7: Led by example, defensively he was a rock, and of course, scored the tying goal.

Chiellini- 6.5: Had little trouble in containing Livorno’s strikers.

Cannavaro- 6: Decent game, though he had a few nervy moments.

Caceres- 5: Final ball was far, far too poor.

Melo- 4: Classic Felipe Melo game. Mediocre, and then gets sent off.

Candreva- 5: Looked bright in the first half, but faded badly in the 2nd.

Grosso- 5: Too slow, 2nd to the ball, and his crosses, like Caceres, were miserable. One would think that
with less defensive responsibilities, the wingbacks would be able to get forward more and have more time on the ball, and deliver a better result. Didn’t happen.

Diego- 6: Hit-or-miss set piece deliveries, and did alright with distribution but the forwards were in poor form tonight so he had few targets.

Del Piero- 5: Very anonymous game, and never really got into the thick of things.

Amauri- 4: Static. Too slow. Whiny. These describe him for the last year, and yet again tonight.

Zaccheroni- 4: We could have won this game, but he chose the wrong players from the start and made poor
substitutions. De Ceglie should have started over Grosso. Paolucci surely can do something more than Amauri. Giovinco should have come on early, or started over Del Piero.

Takeaway-point-of-the-game: We need to sell Giovinco, ASAP. Arsenal would be my pick, obviously Wenger knows what he’s doing with young talent and we wouldn’t have to see him play against us.

Zac’s post match comments:

We made too many mistakes, are not accustomed to playing this way and the new tactic worked only in part. Having said that, this is a rare time in which Juventus have fought back from a goal down, so we saw a good reaction. The big worry is that we have giants in defence and allowed one of the shortest players on the pitch to score with a free header. This is something that cannot happen and needs to be addressed.

We are also slow in moving the ball around, which makes us predictable. The midfield is a problem that this team has had since the start of the season. If a move starts badly, it’ll end badly. I am confident I will be able to solve it, but not in the space of a few days. Juventus aim to improve and reach the summit at the right moment. We’re counting on it.

In the second half when Diego started to go wide a bit more and didn’t remain rooted to the centre, we became dangerous. He should start as a trequartista between the lines and find the space, tying the midfield and strikers together. I expect him to release Amauri and Del Piero. Amauri is forced to play with his back to goal and we need to move the ball around so he can face the target.

Melo is a lad who can’t bear to lose and always gives everything he’s got, which unfortunately means he picks up early cards and they affect the rest of his game.

It’s entirely likely that two weeks ago we would’ve lost this match. It’s worrying that against Lazio and Livorno we left a man alone in front of goal and that is unacceptable. The teams who are consistent should all be considered for the Champions League. I see it very even after the top three, so I believe itwill go right to the final round.

This was another game to throw into the depressing pile. Yea our midfield is the problem Zac thanks for stating the obvious. And why the hell is no one going forward off the ball? You say we play a three-man defense but truthfully we still have too many people back there and not enough joining the rush. Like five it takes six people to stand behind Melo and watch him try to switch the play into the second row. Fuck it’s hard watching this shit.

How was Melo’s second yellow card even a card-able offense? I’m just waiting for Diego to get injured soon and then we’re definitely screwed in our midfield. Shit refereeing in this one too. Ok ok i’m done ranting. Btw, now Palermo and most likely Sampdoria will be ahead of us in the standings come Monday. Great.

Amauri is the second scorer in the serie A, but Iaquinta who barely played, is only one goal behind him... Ridiculous.

with regards to legro's little shirt lift, why does the lega care so much? if he wants to think that God is truth then so what? Its his religious views as long as he doesnt try and force them on other people I really dont see how its controversial, if he had been making a political statement then ok but this was just a guy thanking his deity, who cares?
  • Sofia
TeamGrease: "Amauri couldn’t hit Secco with a truck" LOL!! Sadly, that is the truth
  • Gaetano, according to ESPN, Amauri is Juve's second highest scorer (4 goals). Trezuget is the highest (7 goals), which is probably why Juve has been suffering so much - he has been out for ever.
  • agiamba
Which is dumb. I'm not religious, but I don't give a damn if Legrottaglie shows a shirt that says "Jesus lives" or Melo wears one that says "Athletes of Christ." I don't care if Momo does some Muslim ritual...it shouldn't matter. I read FIFA put this in place last summer, in light of Egypt's celebrations and Kaka's shirts, I guess it's filtered down to the leagues now. Stupid.

New post up about the Primavera in Viareggio.
  • Jose, my understanding is that only political and religious statements are banned. I think you could say you love your wife, or in the recent case of Inter, "return soon" to a player. "Jesus is the truth" is right out, though.
  • Jose
The regulation is soooooo stupid. You can not take away a player right to express his views whichever way he wants, so if his shirt said Merry Christmas or Happy Hannuka he will be fined?. What if it said Happy New Year?, how could they do that?. They should worry about the violence and fans starting fires in the stadium rather than this non-sense.
  • Jorid, not just that, cursing on the pitch is also a red-card offense. And that is all cursing, not just cursing at the ref. Plus, it is retroactive. If a player gets caught cursing on camera they can get a ban. It is ridiculous!
  • Gaetano
True...wait does chiellini have more goals then amauri this season??
  • Jorid
On a side note, the FIGC has decided that anyone with political or religious writings in their shirts under their jerseys will from now on get a straight red and get fined. Legro had "God is The Truth" written on his under-shirt against Livorno, so if he does this again he will get punished. Seems somewhat excessive to me, but to each his own.
TeamGREASE: LOL at "Amauri couldn't hit Secco with a truck."
  • Jorid
Not only did Immobile score 3, but Yago assisted all 3 of his goals for him against Cesena. Why do Amauri and Felipe Melo start again?
Pieces of shit continue to get associated with Juventus as our new transfer objectives. The latest names are Valon Behrami and Miguel.
    Some scary stats:
Amauri in Serie A this season: 29 appearances/4 goals. Throughout the entire 2009 year and up to today, he has scored 5 goals in total. 5 goals in something like 9-10 months of continuous play? There are numerous defenders who get at least 5 goals a season on a regular basis.
  • Jose: LOL! Secco as a target would be a bad idea though, since that would mean Amauri would never leave (Amauri couldn't hit Secco with a truck).
  • Alastair
I wish Tuttosport and other "news" outlets wouldn't tease me with the prospect of a significant managerial restructuring, with Prandelli as coach.

It's far too good to be true.
  • Jose
HolyMann, I know Buffon might leave if we are not in Champions League but he might also leave if we finish in 4th place. He is not here to finish 4th, or to play the CL round robin, he wants to play in a team that stands a chance to win something. The best way to keep Buffon is to find a good coach and present a good project, if we can't then he will leave, no matter where we place.

As for Chiellini I don't think he will leave, he is still young and he has a great desire to win with Juventus, he wants to be Juve's next great captain and he wants to lift trophies with us.

The point is we need a good project, with clear goals and means to obtain it. I agree with Alessio on getting Prandelli over anyone else, but if not then Gasperini is good too. With this said I am already reading we have our made up on Pazzini, I think he is a great player, but we shouldn't buy any players unless they are approved by our new coach. We bought Melo when Ferrara wanted D'Agostino and look where that took us.

We also need a sports director who can build a team, apparently Marotta is a candidate along with Corvino, either of them would be great but why are we not looking at Marino, he has no job and he built a Napoli that is ahead of us with a fraction of the money we had.

As for Secco, I think we should sign him as target practice for our strikers, maybe that way he'll realize how much Amauri sucks and how good our youngsters can be.
  • I have NO IDEA why I miss Tiago. I know he never did anything for us (& even managed to single-handedly ruin the home game vs Napoli) but for some reason I believe he was two starts away from being a crucial spark in our midfield. Plus I had a really good chant setup for him. But he's gone, and it's over, so let's move on.

I also can't believe I miss Capello. I can't see "Cabbage-man" taking any shit from non-producers like Melo or Amauri; Capello would either (a) send them to primavera (b) make them cry and run home to mommy (c) all of the above.

Anyone think Poulsen and Tiago would have "refused transfers" under Capello? The Don would have made them an offer they couldn't refuse...
  • Sofia
I think I read somewhere that Prandelli told the press that if Juve called he would come? I don't know maybe I'm wrong. I would love to see him at Juve, he can't do worse than what we've had so far right?
  • agiamba
Let's throw Immobile or Paolucci into the starting lineup. Can't be worse than Amauri.

Robee, Prandelli would edge out Gasparini for me. I like their tactics, but more than either, I like how both are great at developing players. We need that, as almost all of our players are underperforming. Question remains if Prandelli would be willing to jump from Fiorentina to Juventus....Fabio Caressa insisted he personally knew Prandelli would sign for Juve this summer, but obviously it never materialized.

I like the idea of Blanc remaining CEO, Lippi becoming President, Prandelli as coach, and a new transfer director. Bettega was the first step. Depends if Lippi wants to keep coaching though...I don't think he does.
  • dave
  • Robee
First choice should be Prandelli for everyone. Tuttosport (aka guess not) hints that he would be interested.
  • ooBia
I think Lippi as president is not a bad idea. Maybe Blanc can be responsible for the finances only (he has done a great job), a CFO type job if you will. Secco can be useful, he can refill the water bottles for the players.

And to be honest I don't want Lippi as coach, Gasperini would be my first choice. Speaking of Gasperini, how are Genoa doing as of late?
  • michelangelo
well lippi IMO should be better than blanc since he actually has some knowledge about FOOTBALL.But for me lippis case is extremely confusing, especially when looking at the national team...

but idk he may jave sumtin up his sleeve for the WC.

1.i think cannavaro was signed to a one-year deal...there should be no chance of an extension
    2. i'd like to see the young guns step up to the plate as well...giovinco,deceglie and marchsio are no worse than diego, grosso and melo/sissoko...we need to stop treating them like turds n if we feel there's no palce for them in turin. then FFS let them go n develop their careers elsewhere!!it's immoral n sinful what we r doing to them
    3. it's a shame how a season that started with so much promise has gone so awry...a real shame...i'm already looking beyond this season whether we qualify for the champions league or not...i'd love for gigi & chiellini to stay in the event that we fail to make the top 4, but if they choose to leave i'd understand...
now is the time for blanc, bettega, secco, the elkann's and the agnelli's to sit down n draw-up a long-term plan for restoring lost pride n glory...it should start with an informed and FIRM decision on a manager for the 2010/2011 season...choose the manager u want n then throw damn near everything including the kitchen sink at getting him to sign the dotted line...apply the same approach to getting the players u want...enough of this second-best b.s. that has brought us to our knees(in 2008 we wanted lippi but we could'nt get him so we plumped for ranieri;wanted alonso n could'nt get him so we plumped for poulsen, two years later we wanted lippi again but he was'nt available so we plumped for ferrara;wanted d'agostino n coud'nt get him n so we plumped for melo)
we've lost our cold-blooded ruthless efficiency n we need 2 get it back...we need 2 return 2 d days when we could get baggio & capello from arch-rivals like fiorentina n roma...enough of the nice-guy b.s.!
  • HolyMann
yeah thats the rumor Johonna, after this season, he;ll be made a director of some sort, after all, he and Lippi do have a good relationship....although i wouldnt want to see him there
  • I am not here to troll
Touche on Jo's rubinho comment, he should go to Roma they have an entire legion's worth of brazilian keepers who never quite make it to the national team, he'll fit right in.
  • As for the selling Cannavaro thing: doesn't he have some sort of deal with the club that he will move into the front office?

I mean, will he even be on the pitch after this season?

As for the picture at the top of the page, I wonder if Rubinho's eyebrow is some sort of ironic protest installation. You know how Brazil is known for waxing and general hairlessness, well I think he has that brow as a sort of punk-rock anti-cool statement. Yep. Sure of it.
  • I am not here to troll
ok so I know I havent been the most tolerable person you people have met on the internet but I am allowed to at least have an honest, no BS conversation? Let me know if that is alright, I promise not to be biased, I have nothing against any particular football team I just have a problem with certain fans who like to be more than just assholes.

To Jorid, Julian, and whoever else is cowardly enough to hide behind their computer and insult complete strangers: I could give a flying shit about what you have to say, quite frankly Im done and I could care less about what any of you have to say about me or my "pre teen attitude". If there is a juventino who can actually support his arguments with valid factual evidence then by all means say what you want, but Id rather not get involved anymore then I have already with idiots like Jorid. I must admit though that the real idiot was me as I know better then to get involved into pointless arguments with delinquents like him, Jorid say what you want cuz I really could care less what you say, if its alright though I will continue posting on this wall but I promise to be friendlier
  • HolyMann
i might agree with some of the points you made Jose, although not all of them....

i was thinking about the "not" qualifying to the champions league thought, at first i really did think it can do good for us to a point that it may have the effect of re-organizing all of the management by Blanc stepping down from president, and Secco cleaning the toilets....but would Buffon stay? hell, would Trezeguet stay? with tempting offers from the English clubs, Chiellini and Iaquinta are also a risk of leaving....by not qualifying for the CL, i really think we would be going back to step one, and starting just like did when Juve were promoted back to Serie A....new management, new players, new coach, new tactics...personally, i think it will be a disaster not qualifying for the champions league (just like Tardelli said, by not qualifying for the CL, the last 3 years would definitely go down the drain).
  • Jose
I am hoping we get a CL spot this season, with that being said, I don't think this team deserves that spot and we are pretty lucky to be only 3 points away from Napoli. Hopefully we recovered our injured and we can string a few wins together. However, if we don't, then I hope we don't get CL this year, maybe that way some heads will roll (I am looking at you Secco).

I just hope that whoever we hire as a coach next year has the balls to bench the old guard and play the youngsters. It is beyond me how Immobile and Giovinco are not playing ahead of Amauri and Del Piero, and the worst part is that I don't see Zac changing that.

I also don't understand what our club policy is. In Secco's mind our starting midfield would be Camo, Sissoko and Melo. In that case, what happens to Marchisio? and what about De Ceglie?. Marchisio is one of my favourite players in our team but this year he has been played everywhere and he has not been allowed to grow. We threw one year away in that kid's life, and I don't even want to start with what this management has done to Giovinco who hasn't even had the chance to prove himself.

I hear that our future coaches could be Benitez, Allegri and Gasperini. Do any of you have any thoughts on whether one of this coaches will be ready to bench Del Piero or Diego in favour of Giovinco?.

On my books no CL might mean this team is forced to sell our dead weight (Canna, Amauri, Grosso), terminate the contracts of those who are clearly not working any more (Alex, I am sorry, you are ok for the last 20 mins of a game) and bring into the field the Immobile, Rossi, Ariaudo, Marrone, Giovinco and Marchisio. Those kids actually understand what it means to wear black and white. Forza Juve.
  • jem
Camo's creativity sure has been missed!

Good news- Camoranesi, Marchisio, and Brazzo are starting to train with the group again, and Sissoko and Grygera will be back from suspension this weekend.

I thought Tiago would fit into Atletico well, and he has. We set up a move to there in Winter 07-08 if you remember...lost time for both Tiago and us.

TeamGREASE, why do you miss him?
  • mohd
haha Jorid what an ironically good news. Tiago if you read this we don't miss too so stay the fuck out there
  • I must be the only idiot here that actually misses Tiago.

Lol. Tiago says "I don't want to return to Turin." Quoting the article: "It's too early to speak about my future, but I would like to stay here; it feels good to have the manager's faith and I play a lot which is good."
Best Juve news I've heard in the last few weeks.
  • mohd
kris, melo is a piece of shit and you are underestimating Brighi. By the way don't get your hopes high with Raniari the only thing that is Raniari good at is taking you to second place
  • Kris
Hey guys,Im a Roma fan,(not here to be a troll or anyhting),but more to the point get an insight from the Juve fans.

Just curious to see how some of you feel about Felipe Melo since he has joined the club. To be honest I think his sending off was extremely harsh, but as a player I dont rate him all that highly anyway and feel like you somewhat overpaid for him. In fact or would go as far as to say he is only a little bit better than Brighi (admittedly that could be me commenting with bias in my heart).

I think once Diego starts to find some form as well, that Serie A will see a new Juve. He is a player I really rate, and when the team starts to perform as a whole, Im sure that he will start to perform at a new level.
