PotD: If it’s on Wikipedia, it must be true…
By: alessio | July 29th, 2009So the current rumors swirling around the peninsula are that Barcelona versatile defender Martin Caceres is in Turin tonight and will complete a medical tomorrow just as the team heads off to the United States. Spanish media has picked it up as well. Most outlets are stating he will arrive on loan, with an option of about 10million euros to sign in full at the end of the campaign, after Barca’s sporting director refused Poulsen as a makeweight. Caceres and his agent have been pushing for a full divorce from the Blaugrana, You may recognize Caceres’ agent, Daniel Fonseca, the bianconero Uruguayan supersub before Zalayeta, who has been talking up Juve to Martin. Apparently, he enjoyed his spell with the Bianconeri more than I thought.
The inevitable comparison will be with fellow-Uruguayan and Juventus Legend Paolo Montero, who alongside Ferrara conquered Italy and Europe in the 90s and early 2000s. Hopefully, Caceres will have watched the good Montero, not the “I have the record for most red cards in Serie A” Montero. While I agree with Ferrara that we needed another defender, I would have preferred a natural fullback first, though our center-back department is a bit short for my comfort. It is of course not a done deal, if the dealings with Udinese have taught us anything, it is to wait for the picture of Caceres with Secco, Blanc, and Ferrara on Juventus.com. And despite my satisfaction with signing a young defensive talent, part of me wonders what summer it is when we sign Diego, Melo, and Caceres, instead of starting Giovinco, and signing D’Agostino and Santacroce…

I don’t know if you have ever seen “Coupling” but Almiron/Paulson sounds like an “Unflushable”.
We seem to have a couple of them as well…

I was just thinking it could have been this next summer! (Santacroce, Cannavaro, ADP, Camoranesi on bench)
Buffon
Cassani Chiellini Legrottaglie Balzaretti
Marchisio D’Agostino De Rossi
Giovinco
Iaquinta-AmauriPosted from

Quite right, MAD. And we got Poulsen a great deal, play in Turkey, be a superstar, play CL football, and a big pay raise. And yet, he still declined.

I’ve just been informed by a Barca fan on the Barca Offside (this will make some of you very happy) that Caceres starts for Uruguay at left-back, so maybe he can adapt as a fullback after all. Preferably on the right side.

its very useful for Juve to start getting the right defensive line-up. Current crop of defenders doesnt like near to the shadow of Ferrara, Montero, Torricelli. Even later crop of Cannavaro (1st stint), Zambrotta, Thuram looks better. While the midfield n forward looks good, we need a great cover at back, so that Buffon does not shout that much

I am worried about the defence especially with Cannavaro back who looks a shadow of his former self and looks to really be slowing.

Aleesio, im not really a fan of fullbacks, I more of a wingback fan. Like when Olof played RB i didnt really like it, he was solid defensivly but going forward couldnt really offer anything. i dont really mind Zebina, hes decent in both aspects.

and ive heard that Caceras’s positional sense isint very good at all, same sort of problem that Boumsong had. Sounds a bit iffy, but 4/5th Defender not bad at all.

Alessio,
These signings are truly representing Juve as an organisation- winning at all cost. Now, if everyone healthy, Juve can challenge Inter for the shield.

Yeah wow, Fonseca has really let himself go! At least he’s a footy agent and not running the catwalk like our old legend Fabrizio Ravanelli

Wtf.Caceres is really goofy looking. As far as wingbacks go Sam, I think all fullback players more or less are offensive, I wouldn’t describe Molinaro/Grygera/Zebina as wingbacks, but they cruise up the field plenty. And frankly, as long as they are defensively secure, I’m happy, offense comes second.

I thought for sure you’d have been all over that.

Does anyone else think that Lazio is a much better team then Juventus? I sure do and I hope they don’t beat us again like they did all of last season…
I wish our team was more like Lazio’s… Forza Juve

How does everyone think the Juve-Real game is gonna go? Personally, i think it’s gonna go exactly like the Juve-Milan game in the first half of last season, with a 4-2 scoreline. I think both teams have rocky defenses yet extremely strong attacks, so it’s gonna definitely be high scoring in my opinion, and my guess is 4-2 for Juve.
Its just sad that neither team can field their best 11, because that would be epic. Real’s missing Casillas, Kaka, Ramos, and Albiol, and Juve’s missing Sissoko, Marchisio, and De Ceglie.

Nicolo Nicolo Nicolo… Everyone knows it, but it’s best we never speak of it lol.
Welcome Martin Caceres! There’s so much potential in this kid I can’t wait to see what Ferrara can do with him.

BTW, about my 4-2 prediction, i’m predicting a brace from Amauri, a goal from Diego, and a goal from Del Piero. Also, a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo and a goal from Benzema.
And Alessio i’m suprised you havent made a post about this game. It’s a friendly, but still really big in my opinion. It’s about as big as a friendly can get for sure.

Ehhhh, I’m looking forward to it, but I don’t think I’ll put up a preview. Tactics and man selection can go a 1,000 ways and I won’t mind. Maybe a livepost though so we can comment as we watch.
MAD, wasn’t planning on it. I’d rather a blogger who loves Bari first and foremost, I believe my loyalties are with the Bianconeri, although this is the first time since I was 12 or 13 that I will have to watch them battle each other, it will be interesting. If it stays unfilled, I might. I just don’t want to get too busy and do a halfass job on it.
