VotD: The Locker Room Argument Explodes Publicly

By: alessio | November 19th, 2008

Thanks to Marco P for sending me this one, this is from a few weeks ago and it’s pretty funny. It helps if you understand Italian, but you should get the jist anyways. Derby preview will be up sometime soon.

why is everyone suprised on these blogs when a juventino hates roma? or a romanista hates everyone else? in italia the two would never speak. any idea what the new ground is going to be called? and do you even want aquilani he seems like a crock artist? cigarini would surely be better his passing is amazing

Why do Juve fans and Roma fans hate each other so much? If anything, you’d think that Milan and Juve fans would hate each other cause theyre arguably the two most famous/successful clubs in Italy

because romanista believe juve stole a scudetto from them in the early 80’s and other things. why do you think fiorentina and juve have such a bad rivalry the same thing fiorentina thinks that juve stole a scudetto from them in the 80’s as well. some people in roma wont even serve you if you have juve shirt on in italia people take calcio like tribal mentality. milan and juve are the most successful but they dont have much anger to eachother juve inter is the biggest. but roma dont like anyone really especially juve, lazio and napoli

Just to keep the Michelle Hunziker discussion Juve-related, she used to date singer Eros Ramazzotti (they even had a baby together), who everyone knows is a die-hard Juventus supporter.

juventus in italia is unrivaled. they are just this huge thing that dominates all things calcio in every aspect especially when moggi was around. but outside of italia like in uk where i am living for year milan is because of all the champions leagues. but any italiano would say juve is because they have dominated for so long and always have the best squads

Roma don’t like anyone because they have this false sense of superiority over everybody else. Where do they get it? Who knows…

Since the immediate post-war period, Juve has always been the most popular club in Italy and it is rather unlikely that that will change in the next several decades.

Inter are still the second most popular club in the country, and have maintained that despite all of Milan’s European success and the “synergies” associated with them being owned by the Prime Minister (and the man who controls private television here).

Julian, the difference is Juve fans think Milan is on our level. They are a club with a lot of good traditions and success, and I respect them. Roma is just whiny, and Inter and Juve just don’t go together, period. Like Alessandro said, I don’t know why everyone is surprised Juventini don’t like Romanistas. It doesn’t help my brother is giallorosso, though. Only one on the family, although most of my cousins still in Italy are Baresi with some sympathies for Juve in big games.

That’s the thing though alessio. If Juve fans really didn’t think Roma was that good, why even bothering listening to them/fighting with them?

Because they are (usually) rivals with us in the league standings. If Palermo reached 2nd for years on-end, we’d probably dislike them more than we do.

No, they are selling the naming rights. I wanted it named the Degli Agnelli, though.

But yeah, regionalism in Italy is pretty intense. I know most Baresi hate people from Lecce, people from Napoli, and of course Sicilians.

No matter what it’s “official” (sponsored) name is, you should all call it the Agnelli, or the l’Avvocato.

He deserves it, and the likes of the Fastweb Arena is never going to get traction in Italy.

asem - it has to do with whether he’s logged into WordPress (what is used to make blog posts here on The Offside) or not. When he’s logged in via WP, he’ll pop up in blue. If not, it’s gray!

Lorenzo’s right. Generally if it’s blue means I’m tinkering with a post or something.

Weston, sorry man, I don’t know any subtitles and it’s kinda long to translate.
